Job Title: HR Specialist

Full Time or Part Time: Full Time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Temporary/Seasonal/Regular: Regular, Must be willing to work a flexible schedule which may include holiday’s weekends to support emergency sheltering needs. 

Hourly/Salary: $26 - $29/hour

Job Location: hybrid (office/on-site required) Denver, CO

Reports to: VP of HR

Travel Requirements: possible travel to other facilities in Denver

General Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:

Core HR Operations 

  • Maintain employee records and ensure data accuracy across HRIS platforms 
  • Prepare and process new hire, termination, and status change documentation 
  • Support compliance efforts including audits, EEO tracking, I9 verification, and policy adherence 
  • Assist with employee relations by documenting concerns and routing issues to HR leadership 
  • Coordinate onboarding and offboarding processes, including orientation materials and checklists 
  • Track and Administer Training and Compliance 
  • Assist management staff with scheduling and coordination with employees as needed.  

Recruitment & Talent Acquisition 

  • Post job openings across job boards and manage applicant tracking systems 
  • Coordinate interviews, assessments, and hiring workflows 
  • Conduct initial candidate screenings and provide a positive candidate experience 
  • Support equitable hiring initiatives, including secondchance employment practices 
  • Manage offer letters, background checks, and preemployment requirements 

Payroll & Timekeeping 

  • Process/Support biweekly or semimonthly payroll changes 
  • Audit timesheets and ensure proper coding of hours, PTO, and leaves 
  • Ensure any Payroll changes ensuring timekeeping accuracy and compliance.  
  • Serve as the first point of contact for payroll questions from employees 
  • Coordinate with Finance to verify payroll accuracy and resolve discrepancies. Pull reports or data as needed.  

Benefits Administration 

  • Assist with benefits enrollment, qualifying life events, and annual open enrollment 
  • Provide employees with guidance on medical, dental, vision, and other benefit programs 
  • Troubleshoot benefit eligibility and billing issues with carriers and HRIS 
  • Support leave of absence documentation and tracking 

HRIS & Systems Support 

  • Update employee data and maintain system integrity. Ensure all state, FLSA, and applicable laws are adhered to.  
  • Troubleshoot system issues and support team members with system navigation 
  • Partner with vendors to test and roll out new HRIS features or process improvements 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High level of attention to detail and strong organizational skills  
  • Strong communication skills and ability to handle sensitive information  
  • Tech savvy, especially with HR systems, Microsoft 365, and data entry  
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment 

Physical Demands:

  • Mobility required on-site with clients.
  • Sitting or standing for hours at a time.
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time if needed.
  • Ability to manipulate up to 15 lbs. repetitively throughout the day and as needed.

Work Environment:

  • Work may be on-site with clients at locations in Colorado

Experience and Education Required:

  • 2–3 years of experience in HR, talent acquisition, HRIS, payroll, benefits administration or relevant combination  

Experience and Education Preferred:

  • 4+ years’ experience in Human resources with experience listed above plus employee relations, ADA, leave administration proven experience 
  • Second-chance or nonprofit experience 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish 
  • HR certification (PHR or SHRM-CP) 

Additional Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must pass background check
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S.
