Created by the Maine Legislature in 1977 to provide long-term care services to Maine’s Veterans and eligible family members, MVH operates as an independent, nonprofit organization with six locations: Caribou, Scarborough, South Paris, Bangor and Machias.
MVH is a separate, nonprofit organization from the Department of Veterans Affairs but works closely with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to access federal funding for Veterans’ benefits and care.
MVH employs over 1000 highly skilled staff who are specially trained to provide the physical, emotional, and mental support and care Veterans need and who bring an unwavering commitment to the Vision and Core Values in caring for Maine’s Veterans. Each MVH’s six homes has been recognized by the industry’s leading healthcare organizations, placing MVH in the top five percent in quality measures for nursing homes across the nation.
