The Employee Relations Specialist (ERS) is a highly confidential, specialized role within the Human Resources department. This position is responsible for conducting detailed investigations, documenting findings, and resolving team member issues across the organization. The ERS provides coaching and counseling to management, ensuring consistent application of company policies nationwide.

The ERS also analyzes trends, identifies areas of concern, and delivers recommendations to senior leadership to mitigate risks and improve workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations & Case Management

  • Serve as a hands-on business partner, providing ER support to store and business leadership.
  • Lead detailed and factual investigations related to alleged violations of company policies, including harassment, discrimination, workplace violence, theft, and drug/alcohol violations.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of investigations and findings.
  • Recommend appropriate actions based on findings and escalate sensitive or critical issues as needed.
  • Ensure timely and accurate case management while maintaining confidentiality.

Coaching, Counseling & Compliance

  • Partner with ODP teams to advise managers on investigation outcomes, coaching, performance improvement plans, corrective actions, and terminations.
  • Provide guidance on HR policies, employment laws, and compliance matters to ensure consistent application across all locations.
  • Consult with Legal as needed on complex or high-risk situations.

Data Analysis & Trend Identification

  • Analyze ER data to identify patterns, root causes, or emerging issues by region, level, or behavior.
  • Present findings to upper management with recommendations and action plans.
  • Develop and support initiatives to address skill gaps, compliance risks, or cultural issues.

Collaboration & Support

  • Assist the Legal department with fact-finding for litigation, unemployment hearings, and other legal matters.
  • Support leadership teams in designing morale-building activities and employee engagement efforts.
  • Promote recognition and appreciation programs across the company.
  • Complete additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of Human Resources experience.
  • 2+ years of direct Employee Relations experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law and HR compliance practices.

Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent verbal, written, and group communication skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents, correspondence, and business materials.
  • Strong reasoning and problem‑solving skills.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HR-related systems.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

Physical & Travel Requirements

  • Ability to work extended hours at a desk using a computer as needed.
  • Occasional lifting of materials and office supplies.
  • Travel may be required, up to 50% during certain periods depending on business needs.
