The Role:
As the Executive Director, Foundation/Ministry Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO), you will serve as a key member of the leadership team and trusted partner to the Chief Executive. You will guide the philanthropic strategy across Snohomish County and the Greater Pacific Northwest, collaborating closely with regional acute‑care foundations to ensure an aligned, impactful, and mission‑centered approach.
You will lead major and transformational gift strategies, mentor philanthropy professionals, inspire volunteers, and steward deep, meaningful relationships with donors who care about advancing hospice, palliative care, and community well‑being. You will manage a portfolio of approximately 50 major and principal gift donors and be accountable for achieving an annual personal philanthropic revenue goal.
This role requires a visionary fundraiser, a strategic thinker, and a compassionate relationship‑builder who can align philanthropic priorities with organizational strategy, strengthen board effectiveness, and elevate the ministry’s overall culture of giving.

- Board Partner & Strategic Advisor
- Support Foundation Boards in fulfilling their roles as fundraising partners for the ministry.
- Guide the creation and implementation of policies ensuring ethical, effective, and efficient resource development.
- Build consensus with leaders, including the VP of Hospice, on goals, budgets, and JV‑approved initiatives.
- Operational & Strategic Planner
- Develop and execute annual goals, objectives, and budgets for local JV operations.
- Drive significant philanthropic support for essential programs such as Necessities of Life, Pediatric Hospice, Community-Based Palliative Care, and Bereavement Services.
- Comprehensive Fundraising Architect
- Administer a robust fundraising program including major gifts, planned giving, donor recognition, direct mail, annual giving, special events, grants, and digital campaigns.
- Provide guidance on policy, public relations strategies, and development communications for local JV operations.
- Regional Relationship Builder
- Strengthen collaboration with regional acute care foundations to ensure transparency, shared stewardship, and aligned philanthropic requests.
- Fiscal Steward & Business Manager
- Oversee all business functions of the local PSJHF operations supporting the JV, including AP/AR, investments, and financial reporting.
- Maintain accurate and compliant records in alignment with organizational and regulatory standards.
- Talent Builder & Team Developer
- Recruit, mentor, coach, and evaluate staff to support professional development and high performance.
- Cultivate an inspiring environment that promotes retention, teamwork, and excellence.
- Planned Giving Leader
- Maintain deep understanding of charitable gift vehicles, tax law, and planned giving strategies.
- Provide sophisticated guidance to donors interested in bequests, charitable gift annuities, QCDs, and other legacy gifts.
- Donor Strategist & Relationship Champion
- Cultivate, steward, and solicit major donors and prospects, securing significant philanthropic investments.
- Design and execute strategic fundraising plans aligned with Foundation Board mission, goals, and priorities.
- Community & Professional Ambassador
- Represent the Foundation at community events and participate in regional/national professional organizations.
- Stay current on trends in hospice, home health, and philanthropic best practices.
- Researcher & Data Strategist
- Conduct and oversee research on potential individual, corporate, and foundation donors.
- Ensure the confidentiality and security of all sensitive donor or client information.
- Event Partner & Campaign Contributor
- Provide support for receptions, events, and campaigns as needed to advance philanthropic goals.
What You'll Bring:
- Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Healthcare Administration, or related field — or equivalent combination of education/experience
- Master’s Degree preferred
- Experience
- 10+ years of progressive experience in development with proven success in fundraising and public relations
- 8+ years of leadership experience, including managing teams
- Experience in planned giving, grant writing, donor relations, and comprehensive campaign strategies
- Experience in hospice or home health settings (preferred)
- Knowledge of Sonoma County and Northern California philanthropic landscape (preferred)
- Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit fundraising practices and regulations
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Raiser’s Edge, and other CRM tools
- Outstanding interpersonal communication skills—verbal and written
- Deep knowledge of planned giving vehicles, tax laws, and charitable giving regulations
- Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects under pressure
- Ability to work independently while maintaining exceptional accuracy, productivity, and confidentiality
- Demonstrated teamwork, collaboration, and ability to maintain positive relationships under diverse circumstances
