The HR Coordinator - Employment is a critical thinker who serves as the primary customer service facing position in the Human Resources office. This role reports to the Human Resources Manager and is responsible for student employment and general support to the HR Department as well as support to the AVP for HR.

HR COORDINATOR- EMPLOYMENT

The HR Coordinator - Employment is a critical thinker who serves as the primary customer service facing position in the Human Resources office. This role reports to the Human Resources Manager and is responsible for student employment and general support to the HR Department as well as support to the AVP for HR.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • In coordination with the HR Coordinator - Benefits, represents the department and University as a “first contact” person. Greets all faculty, staff, students and external visitors and directs them to the appropriate HR staff members.

  • Answers phones and emails, screen calls, takes messages, greets and directs visitors, employees, and job applicants in a thoughtful, respectful and professional manner. Responds to general HR inquiries. 

  • Assists the HR Manager on the life cycle of an employee. This includes but is not limited to recruitment, offer letters, and on-boarding of new employees, including new hire paperwork, data entry, and directs new employees to other resources.

  • Responsible for I-9 verifications.

  • Responds to outside organizations for employment and loan verification requests.

  • Assists with processing of background checks.

  • In coordination with the HR Coordinator - Benefits maintains the HR office including: files, personnel records, bulletin boards, required postings, office supplies and equipment, etc. Opens and distributes department mail. Responds to the general HR email inbox.

  • Reconciles P-card/Invoice statements for the AVP for HR.

  • Provides general support to AVP for HR including budget and calendar support. As well as other HR functional experts- at the direction of the AVP for HR.

  • Safeguards the confidentiality of departmental or office administration by exercising discretion in communicating information to faculty, students and staff, and handling departmental records and files, personnel actions, performance evaluations, merit, promotion and tenure decisions, and similar confidential materials.

  • Other duties as assigned. 

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

  • Three years of administrative/clerical experience and two years of customer service experience required, part of which may be satisfied by education and training.

  • Strong computer skills including word processing, e-mail, HTML, spreadsheet and database software. 

  • Must possess excellent people skills and the ability to communicate tactfully in stressful situations

  • Superior organizational skills, ability to work on routine tasks, detail oriented, and the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines despite frequent interruptions are required.

  • Requires a high degree of customer orientation, and effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Possess strong problem-solving skills.

  • Possess strong skills in business English, spelling, punctuation and proofreading and general business etiquette.

  • Ability to work independently as well as establish and maintain harmonious relations with other staff, faculty and students

  • Strong project management skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong critical thinking, creative problem solving, and decision making skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of diversity and inclusion best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in an HR office

  • Workday experience

  • Prior higher education experience

Typical Work Schedule

Standard office work week

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Typical work is performed indoors in a normal office environment.  

Salary: $31.25 per hour
