Employee Relations:

  • Lead employee relations activities for assigned projects, including conducting investigations, responding to employee complaints, and recommending appropriate resolutions.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to supervisors and staff on employee relations matters, performance management, and disciplinary actions to ensure fair and consistent outcomes.
  • Advise and support employment decisions—including hiring, performance management, corrective actions, and terminations—in alignment with company policy and best practices.
  • Draft and manage corrective action documentation and ensure timely and appropriate follow-through.

Compliance:

  • Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and local labor laws and ensure organizational compliance through policy updates and process improvements.
  • Track and manage compliance-related deadlines, filings, and documentation, maintaining an accurate HR calendar of key obligations.
  • Conduct regular audits of employee records, documentation, and HR processes to ensure adherence to regulations and identify risks or areas for improvement.
  • Provide guidance to managers and staff on company policies and employment laws to support consistent and compliant decision-making.
  • Provide support during state audits, Title IX investigations, or compliance checks (background checks, CT 16-67 reference checks, driving records, etc.)
  • Maintain and update employee files and HRIS system as necessary.  
  • Administer leave programs, accommodations and policies in accordance with federal and state laws (FMLA, CTFMLA, CTPSL, ADA, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, WC and other state and federally protected leave or accommodation laws and regulations.)
  • Ensures workers’ compensation program is managed in accordance with applicable OSHA and workers’ compensation laws.  Maintain OSHA records in accordance with law and support annual grant activities. Serve on Safety Committee.
  • Prepare annual EEO report.
  • Oversee general attendance management and work with Payroll for tracking and allocation purposes.
  • Administers employee termination procedures; prepares employee separation notices and related documentation; including coordinating responses for unemployment notices. 

Recruitment and Onboarding:

  • Support recruitment efforts for programs across the organization. Conduct sourcing, phone screens and interviews.  Participate in career fairs when needed. 
  • Support the onboarding process for employees, including employee orientation.
  • Other duties as required.

The minimum qualifications and requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Human Resources, particularly with employee relations and compliance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources and/or SHMR Certification preferred.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team.
  • Demonstrated high level of confidentiality and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and oral.
  • Must be able to prioritize and plan work activities efficiently.
  • Must be dependable, able to follow instructions, respond to management direction and improve performance through management feedback.
  • Ability to learn new systems and processes.
