Position Summary

The HR Generalist will be responsible for managing key HR functions including payroll processing, Labor & Industries (L&I) compliance, employee relations, conflict resolution, HR documentation, policy administration, employee development initiatives, and confidential handling of sensitive employee information. This role serves as a vital point of contact for employees and leadership, ensuring HR operations align with best practices and support company goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and manage all aspects of payroll and maintain compliance with wage and hour laws.
  • Ensure compliance with Labor & Industries (L&I) reporting, claims management, and regulatory requirements.
  • Address and resolve employee relations issues professionally and in a timely manner.
  • Conduct investigations into employee complaints or policy violations and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Provide guidance to management and employees on conflict resolution and HR best practices.
  • Maintain and organize HR documentation including employee records, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations.
  • Serve as a resource for employees regarding company policies, procedures, benefits, and career development opportunities.
  • Administer and update company policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with employment laws and organizational goals.
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of training programs to enhance workforce skills and capabilities.
  • Develop and support employee engagement and retention initiatives to promote a positive work environment.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive employee information.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of HR Generalist or related HR experience; construction or skilled trades industry experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of payroll processes, including timekeeping, wage compliance, and payroll tax regulations
  • Knowledge of Washington State Labor & Industries regulations (workers’ compensation, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, managing L&I-related reporting and procedures)
  • Strong understanding of employment laws (federal, state, and local) and HR best practices
  • Proven experience conducting investigations, handling employee relations issues, and recommending appropriate corrective actions
  • Ability to manage sensitive information and situations with a high degree of integrity and confidentiality
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, coaching, and conflict resolution skills
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems (setup, reporting, and maintenance)
  • Payroll software experience required (e.g., Paychex, ADP, QuickBooks, or similar platforms)
  • Timekeeping and wage compliance in payroll (important in construction/trades)
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency required (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and time management skills with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • HR certification (SHRM-CP, PHR) preferred but not required
  • Pass a background check
  • Pass a drug screen
  • Clean a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)
  • Must be 23+ years of age (for insurance purposes only)
