JOB SUMMARY:
The HR Generalist provides administrative and operational support across all areas of Human Resources at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. This role is responsible for new team member orientation and onboarding, benefits support, training and education compliance, clerical and records management, and general office coordination. The HR Generalist also serves as the primary administrator of the hospital’s Learning Management System (LMS), Elsevier, ensuring training and education requirements are tracked and met.
DEPT. SCOPE OF SERVICE:
The Human Resource Department provides operational leadership in Human Resource management to all employees of Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. Human Resource policies, procedures and practices are in accordance with the hospital’s mission and strategies, prevailing state and federal employment laws and Collective Bargaining Agreement. Human Resources provides the full spectrum of Human Resource services to managers and employees including: employee and labor relations, compensation and benefits management, recruitment/selection/placement, performance management, development planning and organizational effectiveness, and education service support.
The Human Resource Department provides services Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The department interfaces with department heads and employees across all departments, senior management, medical staff, community members, legal counsel and various staff/federal governmental agencies.
Key Responsibilities:
New Team Member Orientation & Onboarding
- Prepare orientation materials and facilitate new team member orientation sessions.
- Support managers and new hires through the onboarding process, including background checks, reference verification, and completion of required documentation.
- Ensure accurate entry and maintenance of employee data in HRIS and related systems.
Training & Education Compliance
- Serve as the primary administrator of the Elsevier Learning Management System (LMS), including user setup, course assignments, reporting, and troubleshooting.
- Track and report on hospital-wide mandatory training and continuing education requirements to ensure compliance with internal policy and regulatory standards.
- Partner with department leaders to schedule and monitor annual and role-specific education, ensuring timely completion and accurate recordkeeping.
Benefits Support
- Assist employees with benefits-related questions, including health, dental, vision, retirement, and leave programs.
- Process benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations, ensuring compliance with plan provisions and regulatory requirements.
- Support annual open enrollment and wellness initiatives.
Clerical & Records Management
- Maintain employee personnel files, I-9s, and other HR records in compliance with hospital policy and legal standards.
- Draft correspondence, prepare reports, and manage confidential information with discretion.
- Assist with HR data reporting and audits as needed.
General Office Coordination
- Serve as the first point of contact for the HR department, responding to inquiries and directing employees and visitors appropriately.
- Coordinate meetings, trainings, and department events.
- Order office supplies and ensure HR work areas remain organized and well supplied.
Qualifications
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of HR experience; healthcare HR experience a plus.
- Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), preferably Elsevier, is strongly preferred.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems (Paylocity experience a plus).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

Compensation Disclosure in Accordance with Vermont Act 155
In compliance with Vermont Act 155, Brattleboro Memorial Hospital provides the compensation range for this position in good faith. The listed range represents the pay scale reasonably expected for a successful candidate based on factors such as relevant experience, education, internal equity, and market competitiveness. Final compensation will be determined during the hiring process.
