SUMMARY

Human Resources Generalist role requires hands-on expertise in health and welfare benefits, retirement plan administration, leave of absence management, workers’ compensation, unemployment claims, and recruiting. Human Resources Generalist is a key resource and advocate for team members, supervisors, managers and other department leaders. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

General HR Support

  • Maintain the integrity, confidentiality, and accuracy of all employee files, records, and company information.
  • Maintain HRIS data integrity and generate reports.
  • Promptly respond to internal and external inquiries completely and accurately
  • Manage appropriate and timely follow-up on all work.
  • Participate in HR initiatives and projects to enhance employee engagement and organizational effectiveness.
  • Assist with employee relations, performance management, and policy and procedure interpretation.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and internal policies.

Benefits & Retirement Administration

  • Support in the administration of the employee health and welfare benefit programs (medical, dental, vision, life, disability, EAP, Accident, etc.).
  • Coordinate annual open enrollment and benefit communications.
  • Serve as liaison with benefit vendors and resolve employee benefit issues.
  • Support retirement plan administration including 401(k) enrollments, changes, compliance testing, and audits.
  • Ensure compliance with ERISA, ACA, COBRA, and other applicable regulations.

Leave of Absence Management

  • Administer all types of employee leaves including FMLA, ADA, short-term and long-term disability, and personal leaves.
  • Maintain accurate leave records and ensure compliance with federal and state laws.
  • Communicate with employees and managers regarding leave status and return-to-work procedures.

Workers’ Compensation & Unemployment

  • Administer workers’ compensation claims and coordinate with insurance carriers and internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor claim status and support return-to-work programs.
  • Respond to unemployment claims and represent the company, along with appropriate managers in hearings as needed.

Recruiting & Onboarding

  • Support full-cycle recruitment including job postings, screening, interviewing, and offer letters.
  • Partner with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and develop sourcing strategies.
  • Facilitate onboarding and orientation for new hires to ensure a smooth transition.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of HR experience with demonstrated expertise in benefits, retirement, leave, workers’ compensation, unemployment, and recruiting.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Working knowledge of human resources principles, practices, and procedures
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws (e.g., FMLA, ERISA, ACA, COBRA).
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of employees and leadership
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related fields and/or equivalent experience.
  • At least three years’ related experience required. 
  • PHR or SHRM-CP credential is a plus.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • None.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 20-25 lbs. assisted, climb, or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.   Specific vision abilities required in this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. May work on a computer up to 8 hours a day.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environmental characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

The position is primarily based in a clean, well-lit, climate-controlled office environment.  The noise level is generally quiet to moderate.  Subject to physical and emotional stress associated with administrative/leadership role. While performing duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to inside environmental conditions, and on occasion, could be exposed to blood, other body fluids, and residents with communicable diseases.
