Job Summary
The HR Generalist will serve as a key HR partner within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, supporting plant leadership and employees across all shifts. This role ensures compliance with labor laws and company policies, drives employee engagement, supports recruitment for skilled trades and production roles, and strengthens workforce development. The HR Generalist acts as a bridge between HR strategy and shop-floor execution, helping to build a safe, compliant, and high-performance culture.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations & Engagement
- Serve as the first point of contact for supervisors, managers, and production employees regarding HR policies, employee relations, and workplace issues.
- Conduct fair and timely investigations into employee concerns, disciplinary actions, and grievance procedures.
- Partner with plant leadership to implement programs that improve employee morale, retention, and engagement across all shifts.
- Support communication initiatives to ensure consistent messaging throughout the plant.
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
- Lead recruitment efforts for skilled trades, production operators, and technical roles in a competitive labor market.
- Partner with hiring managers to identify workforce needs and support succession planning for critical plant roles.
- Oversee onboarding and orientation programs tailored to manufacturing employees, with emphasis on safety and compliance.
Performance, Training & Development
- Guide supervisors in managing performance, coaching, and corrective action in alignment with company policy.
- Support training initiatives for safety, technical skills, leadership development, and compliance.
- Assist in identifying skill gaps and developing workforce training programs to support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.
Compensation, Compliance & HR Operations
- Partner with leadership during annual performance reviews, compensation planning, and merit increases.
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws, including wage & hour compliance, FMLA, OSHA, and EEO requirements.
- Maintain accurate HRIS and timekeeping records to support compliance and reporting.
- Collaborate with Safety and Operations teams on initiatives related to employee well-being, compliance, and workplace safety.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field.
- Bilingual Spanish and English.
- 3-5 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years supporting a manufacturing or industrial workforce.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws, OSHA regulations, and HR best practices in a manufacturing setting.
- Experience with HRIS and timekeeping systems; UKG or similar preferred.
- Proven ability to partner with both frontline employees and plant leadership.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Flexibility to support multiple shifts and respond to urgent workforce needs.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed primarily indoors. Lighting is artificial. Equipment used includes standard office equipment i.e. computer, telephone, and copier. Physical demands include sitting, walking, standing, bending over, kneeling, repetitive use of hands, grasping, pushing, pulling and lifting up to 25 lbs. Hours and days are flexible within a Monday through Friday workweek. Position requires close contact with Hestan employees.
