Role and Responsibilities
The Human Resources Specialist-I supports the day-to-day operations of the HR department. This role provides assistance across a range of HR functions, including but not limited to departmental development, HRIS, employee relations, training and development, benefits, compensation, organizational development, executive administration, and employment.
Key Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Provide employees with guidance and resolution on HR-related questions and concerns (employee relations and services).
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and manage the HR filing system.
- Assist with recruiting and staffing logistics, including interviewing, travel arrangements, orientation, onboarding paperwork, separations, and exit surveys.
- Conduct and document internal investigations as needed, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Ensure fairness and consistency in job interview documentation and candidate selection.
- Collaborate with supervisors and payroll to resolve any issues prior to payroll processing.
- Support training and employee development initiatives, including scheduling, logistics, and recordkeeping.
- Partner with the Safety Department to promote employee safety, health, and wellness.
- Assist in the administration and documentation of compensation and benefits programs.
- Maintain open and effective communication with management to promote awareness and adherence to WSI policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to talk and hear.
- Frequently required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
- Must have specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Minimal contact with moving parts or machinery.
Qualifications & Education Requirements
- Human Resources Experience & Knowledge
- Experience in Human Resources preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required; familiarity with Outlook is preferred.
- Ability to follow instructions, take initiative, and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills
- Strong and consistent communication with WSI management is required.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English; bilingual skills are a plus but not required.
- Must be able to reside and work in a multicultural environment and collaborate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Must maintain a courteous and professional attitude with management, coworkers, employees, and external partners.
- Must be capable of remaining professional and pleasant in high-pressure or stressful situations.
- Must be dependable, self-motivated, able to follow directions, and exercise sound judgment.
- Must demonstrate consistent punctuality, reliable attendance, and willingness to work overtime as needed.
- Organization & Attention to Detail
- Must be capable of maintaining confidentiality, managing multiple tasks, and ensuring accuracy in all duties, communication, and documentation.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational and filing skills.
- Clear, legible handwriting is required for accurate documentation.
- Must work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
