The HR Specialist I (HR Assistant) is responsible for supporting the Human Resources team with day-to-day administrative and operational tasks. This role involves assisting employees and managers, maintaining data accuracy, coordinating onboarding, and ensuring high standards of customer service and confidentiality.
Respond to routine employee questions regarding HR policies and procedures.
Provide administrative and project support to the HR team, including:
Processing mail
Creating and distributing documents
Maintaining data in the HRIS system
Scheduling appointments and meetings
Compiling and preparing reports and spreadsheets
Coordinate new employee onboarding and orientation:
Set up workstations, email accounts, and system access
Serve as the point of contact for new hire questions
Maintain HR files and database; audit new hire files for compliance
Process employment references and verifications per company standards
Assist with employee engagement initiatives and internal communications
Support compliance programs such as TB/PPD testing, Relias training, and license tracking
Participate in planning employee events and HR-led activities
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required
Additional education or HR training preferred
Experience:
Previous experience or understanding of HR functions preferred
Experience with UKG software a plus
Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
Effective verbal and written communication
Ability to interpret data and present it clearly
Highly organized with attention to detail and time management skills
Dependable, flexible, and responsive to feedback
Familiarity with HRIS systems (UKG preferred)
Experience creating internal communications and event coordination
Work is performed in an office environment
Frequent sitting, standing, and mobility throughout the workday
