We are deeply client-centric, balancing employee advocacy with commercial outcomes, and we play a critical role in enabling the New York Post to attract, develop, and retain top talent in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The New York Post is seeking a Director, People Business Partner based in New York City. This is a high-impact role supporting senior leaders across the newsroom and commercial functions, with the opportunity to shape our people strategy for a fast-moving, high-profile media business.
Reporting to Chief Human Resources Officer, you will serve as a trusted advisor to executives, senior leaders, and employees, helping drive organizational effectiveness, talent strategy, employee engagement, and culture. This role requires strong judgment, confidence navigating complexity, and the ability to influence in an environment where speed, performance, and clarity matter.
You will combine strategic thinking with a pragmatic, roll-up-your-sleeves approach, bringing solutions that work in real time and under pressure. You will also partner closely with corporate colleagues to ensure alignment, consistency, and access to best practices.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
• Act as a strategic People Business Partner to senior leaders and employees, aligning people strategies with the New York Post’s editorial, commercial, and digital priorities.
• Build deep understanding of the business and provide guidance on organizational design, workforce planning, leadership effectiveness, change management, and succession planning.
• Partner with leaders on employee engagement, performance management, talent development, and career progression, particularly in high-performance, deadline-driven environments.
• Navigate and resolve complex employee relations matters, including investigations, performance issues, and workplace conflict, with sound judgment and discretion.
• Use data, insights, and workforce analytics to inform decision-making and drive action.
• Champion transparent, candid communication and foster a culture of accountability, trust, and inclusion.
• Embrace innovation, including the practical adoption of AI tools, to improve efficiency and effectiveness in how work gets done.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
• A strategic, credible People leader who aligns work to clear business goals and delivers results.
• Strong relationship-builder with the confidence to influence, challenge, and coach senior leaders.
• Comfortable operating in ambiguity and making decisions when not all processes are defined.
• Direct, transparent communicator who assumes positive intent and speaks up when it matters.
• Proactive, resilient, and solutions-oriented, with the judgment to escalate appropriately.
• A collaborative partner who contributes to a culture of excellence, trust, and shared success.
WHAT YOU HAVE
• 8+ years of progressive HR experience, including 3+ years in a senior HR Business Partner or equivalent client-facing role
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in HR, business, psychology, or relevant field.
• Experience supporting high-performing, fast-paced teams, including commercial, sales, or creative/editorial organizations
• Strong background in employee relations, workplace investigations, and performance management
• Demonstrated ability to balance business partnership with employee advocacy
• Experience working within large, complex, or matrixed organizations
• Working knowledge of employment laws and practices
• Excellent coaching, counseling, and influencing skills
• Data-driven mindset with experience using insights to guide strategy and action
• Comfort working under pressure and managing sensitive, high-stakes situations
• Willingness to work on-site in midtown Manhattan and adhere to a hybrid work model
Pay Range: $140,000 and $155,000 with bonus eligibility.
