Are you passionate about supporting others and looking to grow your career in human resources? The Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Recruitment HR Assistant to join our dynamic Recruitment and Background Investigations Unit.

This job rotation opportunity is anticipated to last 12-months, though may be extended or decreased due to business need. To be eligible, you must be a current state of Oregon employee in regular status to apply. Employees in trial service, temporary or Contract status are not eligible to apply. The position will be primarily located in Madras, OR at Deer Ridge Correctional Facility, with the option to be hybrid in the future. This position is management service non-supervisory. This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute. This list could be used to fill future vacancies.

About the Job – Your Role

As a Recruitment HR Assistant, you will provide essential technical and administrative support to ensure a smooth and efficient hiring process for Correctional Officer (CO) candidates. Your work will directly impact the success of our recruitment efforts by assisting with the CO background check process, ensuring documentation accuracy, scheduling, coordinating NTN test and Psychological Evaluation interviews, and tracking CO candidates through every stage of the recruitment pipeline. This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with a team that drives positive change and supports Oregon’s mission to create safer communities.

The Employee Services Division serves DOC by focusing our efforts on our most valuable asset: our employees. We do this through recruitment, hiring, and retention of a diverse and talented workforce. The Employee Services Division provides guidance, technical assistance, training, and labor relations support – while continually working to deliver the best-in-class customer services.

Minimum Qualifications

Your application materials will be reviewed to verify that you have:

  • Two (2) years of human resources clerical-support experience directly assisting human resources professionals in the administrative functions of a human resources program; OR
  • Three (3) years progressively responsible administrative, clerical or record-keeping support experience.

College-level course work may substitute for the general experience requirement based on 45-quarter units per year.

The State Certified Human Resources Professional (SCHRP) certification, awarded by the Oregon Chief Human Resources Office, substitutes for six (6) months of human resource professional-level experience.

  • Experience coordinating or supporting recruitment activities such as interviews, documentation review, and candidate outreach
  • Familiarity with eSOPH or similar background investigation systems and the ability to support candidates through that process
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Basic understanding of human resources laws and Oregon DPSST Correctional Officer certification requirements
  • Ability to analyze situations, develop sound recommendations, and communicate them clearly
  • Valid Oregon Driver License or alternative

Working Conditions

The position is based in Madras, OR at Deer Ridge Correctional Institution A hybrid work option might be available in the future. You will work in an office environment and work independently. This position functions under considerable pressure through changing deadlines, detailed tracking, and constant interruptions.

The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range to reflect an additional 6.95%.

About the Process – What to Expect

  • The hiring manager will review your application and schedule interviews.
  • Interview will be held with a panel of stakeholders who have completed panel assessment training. Scores will be determined based on predetermined questions and scoring guides.   • Final candidates will have a background check, PREA check, and reference checks.

Requirements for Employment

The successful candidate for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, there may be some felony convictions that could disqualify you for this position.
