Job Summary

Virginia Wesleyan University is seeking a Human Resources Assistant to perform a variety of administrative, technical, and professional tasks in support of the various functions of the Human Resources Office while maintaining a very high degree of confidentiality.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to the Director of Human Resources by filing, scanning, copying, and other administrative tasks, as needed.
  • Coordinate the Wellness Program in Health Advocate by monitoring the budget, arranging events, attending meetings, sending out information to employees and coordinating the quarterly and grand prizes.
  • Recruiting, to include job posting and monitoring of applicants.
  • Onboarding of new hires, by distributing and collecting paperwork, and adding confidential information to the University systems.
  • Offboarding of exiting employees.
  • Employee benefit administration including health, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, long term care, retirement accounts, flexible spending health and dependent care accounts.
  • Assist employees with questions and provide excellent customer service.
  • Assist with institutional and departmental initiatives associated with human resources.
  • Prepare, maintain, and monitor employee files, employment agreements, financial records, statements, and institutional contracts.
  • Distribution and monitoring of Employee Performance Evaluations.
  • Work closely with all divisions, including Academic Affairs, Advancement, Campus Life and Operations, Enrollment, Intercollegiate Athletics, and the Office of the President.
  • Other administrative duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree. Bachelor’s degree, preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Human Resources office environment, Higher Ed experience, a plus.
  • Experience using HRIS Software. ADP or Oracle Cloud experience, preferred.
  • Experience using MS Office (Word, Excel).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
