The Human Resources Assistant performs a critical role in the facility, being responsible for all hiring duties and maintaining personnel records/files for employees, maintaining several logs for the agency, and assisting in various tasks to assist the Human Resources Manager to maintain a full staff in all areas of recruitment, employee relations, benefits, payroll, timekeeping, personnel records, employment and classification. This position will assist applicants in hiring with DOP and administer the CSI test for all new correctional officer applicants. Prepare all new employee personnel files, prepare all new hire packets and assist in new employee orientation and onboarding. Assist with preparing disciplinary and adverse action correspondence; processing FMLA; filing workers’ compensation claims; initiate processing for all leave of absences; recruiting to include travel to career events and job fairs. Maintain accurate Human Resources records to ensure data and records to ensure data and records are kept in a manner that is accurate and readily accessible. Will utilize state operating systems such as Kronos, NeoGov, and OASIS. Based on law, rule and policy, this position will assist new and current employees with understanding processes and completing forms for all human resource and payroll related issues. The applicant must have excellent communication skills and the ability to organize and prioritize assignments. Ensure work is done in compliance with relevant federal and state laws, and perform other duties as assigned. Assist in security as needed.
In accordance with SPB 3088 effective 10/7/23, $5000 will be added to the minimum starting rate of pay for all classifications within a Critical Vacancy Pay Supplemental Facility. Critical Vacancy Pay Facilities: Huttonsville Correctional Center and Jail, Mount Olive Correctional Complex and Jail, Western Regional Jail and Corrections Facility, Northern Correctional Facility (including Ohio County Correctional Center), Northern Regional Jail and Correctional Facility, Chick Buckbee Juvenile Center, Vicki Douglas Juvenile Center, Potomac Highlands Regional Jail and Correctional Facility, and Eastern Regional Jail and Corrections Facility (including Martinsburg Correctional Center) (SPB 3088).
Employees in this classification shall receive an annual base building pay differential each fiscal year of $250 after completing one year of service.
If an employee is hired into a Critical Vacancy Pay Facility (CVPF) and leaves the facility, the additional pay differential of $5,000 shall be removed from their salary, unless transferring to another CVPF.

Training: High school diploma or the equivalent.
Experience: Two (2) years of full-time or part-time equivalent paid clerical experience, one (1) year of which must have been in a support or paraprofessional role in human resources, payroll, bookkeeping or accounting.
