REPORTS TO:  Employee Relations Manager

SUPERVISES:  N/A

AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administers processes and activities necessary to develop and maintain positive employee morale, non-union status and to achieve the goals of the business.

  • Applies knowledge of human resource principles and practices, including federal and state laws and regulations.

  • Upholds Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity by administering and communicating policies, processes and activities necessary to ensure both compliance and the spirit of non-discrimination throughout the company.

  • Manages employee relations including grievances, investigations, complaints, assistance/communication, terminations and any other applicable issues

  • Makes recommendations for corrective/disciplinary actions.

  • Serves as a liaison between members of management and hourly employees.

  • Prepares reports for management as needed.

  • Communicates with employees in person, by phone or e-mail, to answer questions, provide information, and resolve problems.

  • Counsels employees regarding work, family, or personal problems.

  • Ensures the uniform application of HR policies and procedures.

  • Conducts exit interviews.

  • Assists with the development and/or updates of policies and procedures as necessary.

  • Produces and/or distributes internal communications.

  • Responds to employee complaints, managements concerns, and inquires regarding personnel policies and procedures.

  • Administers personnel functions such as unemployment insurance and hearings.

  • Participates in the organization of company/employee activities as needed.

  • Maintain a visible and consistent presence on the production floor to build relationships, assess workforce sentiment, identify issues, and support employee engagement and communication efforts

  • Reviews performance assessment process for efficiency and assists with reviewing accuracy and calibration of hourly performance reviews.

  • Oversees attendance tracking process for consistency.

  • Monitors company bulletin boards for accuracy.

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelors’ degree in Human Resources or related field and 1-3 years of experience in Human Resources required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Candidates with demonstrated experience with adherence to legal compliance, AAP, union avoidance and promotion of diversity strongly preferred.

  • PHR or SPHR certification preferred.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and working within databases.

  • Must maintain a high level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.

  • Must be willing and able to work day, night and/or weekend shifts

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Specific physical requirements include the following:

  • Must be able to walk/tour all vessels and work sites.

  • Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing as a minimum includes stairs, scaffolding, ladders, and ramps).

  • Demonstrate good balance while working on uneven surfaces and maneuvering obstacles.

  • Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toes shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards.

  • Ability to withstand cold and hot temperatures.

  • Lift/push/pull up to 20lbs on an occasional basis.

  • Able to respond to verbal and audible sounds/commands.

  • Able to utilize adequate visual skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, outside weather conditions, and extreme heat.  The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes and/or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and heat and cold.  The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
