Nexus Family Healing is looking to hire a Human Resources Generalist to join our newest youth crisis and stabilization center set to open in summer 2025 in Hennepin County!
This new youth crisis and stabilization center is a 13-bed, short-term residential service is for Hennepin County youth with complex mental and behavioral health issues looking for appropriate care. The service will help to reduce the number of youth who are stuck in inappropriate care settings such as emergency rooms, police stations, juvenile detention or unstable home situations and provide treatment and therapeutic supports while triage, assessment, and transition planning take place with families.
Schedule/Pay/Location:
- Full-time onsite opportunity
- 1800 Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis
- Pay range: $55,000-$65,000 annually

Position Summary:
Our HR Generalist provides Human Resources support and services in the following functional areas: benefits administration, employee relations, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation and interpretation, affirmative action, and employment law compliance. This role will serve as an important liaison and partner to leaders, providing HR guidance and risk mitigation

Primary responsibilities:
New Employee Orientation, Onboarding & Documentation.
- Ensures new hire/payroll documents are completed within pre-established deadlines and submitted to home office; creates and establishes new employee files that are secure and confidential.
- May assist in conducting New Hire Orientation; distributes/discusses and fields questions surrounding pertinent policies, procedures (Nexus or Agency specific) and automated timekeeping system, as needed.
- Assists in presenting and distributing employee benefit information; tracks eligibility dates and proactively collects completed benefit election/waiver forms, thirty days prior to coverage effective date.
- Maintains an organized and streamlined follow-up system, accountable to collecting outstanding human resource and/or personnel documents and information for complete employee file/record.
Department documentation, record keeping, employee personnel changes and report generation.
- Compiles and maintains employee personnel files in the format instructed by home office Human Resources and in compliance with all regulatory agencies.
- Processes employee personnel changes including but not limited to new hires, position changes, promotion, pay increase, personnel information etc.
- Maintains thorough and confidential LOA records and files including LOA, STD, Military Leave, Personal Leave, Administrative leave etc.; communicates with leave of absence case managers as needed.
- Maintains employee training records as assigned and generates reports demonstrating department and agency compliance for required licensure.
- Processes voluntary and involuntary employee separations; initiates exit interviews, necessary departmental communication, equipment collection and initiates the employment backfill and replacement process.
- Leverages HRIS and other systems to generate reporting as needed or required including but not limited to: 90-day and Annual Performance Evaluation notices, benefit eligibility, employment service dates, employee rosters and census information, etc.
Provides Leave of Absence Support, Communication & Confidentiality.
- Submits First Report of Injury Forms to insurance provider, follow-up medical provider bills and physician notes to insurance provider.
- Documents and records injuries on annual OSHA log and post in accordance with federal law.
- Serves as a liaison between the injured worker and the Workers Compensation insurance claim representative; assists in case management responsibilities through injury/claim resolution.
- Collaborates in processing and performing case management responsibilities for leaves of absence, disability, and life claims to ensure correct and timely administration of pay, benefits, medical/leave documentation and “need to know” communication.
May Assist in timekeeping and payroll activities and records.
- Proactively instructs employees and supervisors on automated timekeeping system procedures.
- Reviews all payroll data for accuracy and completeness prior to home office notification and submission.
- Ensures timekeeping ‘exceptions’ are consistent with home office time codes including: FMLA, LOAs, STD, WC, PTO usage, etc.
Policy Interpretation, Employee Relations, Performance Management and Confidentiality.
- Serves as the initial point of contact for employee inquiries and concerns; proactively partners with Home Office HR staff for escalated personnel and employee relations issues, while mitigating risk.
- Partners with and coaches leadership in areas of company policy, procedure, employment law, HR principles, and providing employees with regular, meaningful performance feedback
- Guides leaders through the corrective action process with employees via corrective action conversations and documentation.
- Understands and complies with union contracts; adheres to processes and procedures surrounding wages, hours, working conditions and corrective action.
- Obtains general knowledge and understanding of the following laws and how they relate to the agency: EEO/AAP, FLSA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, HIPAA Privacy, OSHA, USERRA.
Required Education and Licensure:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field.
- Minimum of 3+ years’ general HR experience required.
- Valid driver’s license required. Must meet state regulating agency and Home Office driving requirements.
