HUMAN RESOURCES GENERALIST

Maymont is a 100-acre historic estate and park, located in Richmond, Virginia, with many unique experiences for all to enjoy, including the historic Maymont Mansion, The Robins Nature Center, arboretum, formal gardens, and habitats for native Virginia wildlife and farm animals. Since 1975, Maymont has been maintained and operated by the nonprofit Maymont Foundation, committed to creating experiences that delight, educate and inspire its guests.

The Maymont Foundation is seeking a full-time Human Resources Generalist responsible for managing the organization's daily human resources functions, including recruitment, onboarding, payroll processing, benefits administration, regulatory reporting and compliance, data analytics, and employee training and development. This position reports to the CFO & VP of Business Operations.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage and utilize metrics, analytics, industry benchmarks and research to assist senior leadership in decision-making regarding workforce needs, organizational priorities, employee growth and development, work culture, employee compensation, and organizational structure
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify and develop employee training, education and development opportunities, and to coordinate the delivery of content and programming
  • Coordinate talent recruitment, acquisition, onboarding, orientation, and retention processes and strategies
  • Provide support and guidance on employee accountability and performance management, including employee education and training, policy and practice implementation, and alignment with growth and development strategies
  • Partner with leadership to continue to enhance and cultivate the Foundation's organizational culture, including promoting an open-door philosophy and embedding a lens of diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Manage biweekly time tracking and payroll processing. Ensure accurate withholding and reporting of payroll taxes, retirement plan contributions and other benefits, and work closely with finance and accounting to audit payroll and benefit administration, compliance and testing
  • Administer and oversee benefits program, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, and retirement savings plan
  • Implement and manage a human resources information system to streamline technologies to enhance and modernize processes to meet the needs of the organization and employees
  • Maintain personnel files, including current and accurate position descriptions, employment eligibility documentation, position descriptions, compliance documents, performance evaluations, training log, etc.
  • Assist in coordination of Volunteer, Internship, and Work-Study programs
  • Oversee and maintain practices to support compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations, including staying current on regulatory changes with EEOC, ADA, FMLA, VA DOLI, ACA, OSHA, etc.
  • Manage workers' compensation program, including policy and claims administration, annual audit, and recommend improvements to employee safety protocols, and provide training as needed
  • Participates in Maymonts events as needed, which may be outside of regular work schedule
  • Assist with other duties and other tasks as assigned

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources management, business administration or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in human resources or related area
  • Working knowledge of a variety of HR laws, concepts, practices and procedures

  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision, show initiative, take ownership of an entire process and take a creative approach to tasks
  • High energy, positive attitude and flexibility
  • Proficiency in MS Office, payroll processing platforms and human resources information systems
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Valid driver's license required with reliable transportation to and from Maymont

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking and talking for extended periods
  • Frequent climbing, bending, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work inside and outside in all weather conditions
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
