About this job:
Functioning in a generalist capacity, the associate will provide Human Resources with support, focusing primarily on the New York Buying Office. The HR Generalist role is a foundational-building role that affords key learning in the HR capacity to ensure a progressive career path to the HR Business Partner role.  The associate will be involved in programs and development of HR processes in the areas of HRIS, performance management, payroll & benefit administration, associate relations, HR administration and analysis. The generalist is accountable for supporting his/her supervisor on daily partnerships with respective business client groups on all HR-related issues. In this role, this individual will have the opportunity to be exposed to strategic HR practices under the direction of his/her supervisor.

Responsibilities:

HRIS:
  • Initiate analysis, reports, statistical data which may affect HR performance and/or related business initiatives
  • Interpret business requests for data & deliver appropriate analysis 
  • Compile information (i.e. Wage, Salary, Comparative, Turnover, etc) for reporting and interpretation of data
  • Ad Hoc reporting as needed
  • Construct PeopleSoft queries using HR data as needed

Performance Management/ Appraisal Process:
  • Full cycle appraisal process administration
  • Responsible for supporting supervisor in the performance management process. This includes the review and revisions of the annual and mid-year NYBO appraisals, timely execution of the process, consulting with management on performance issues
  • Management of 90 day appraisal process for below Director level
  • Edit and catalog all performance appraisals
  • Manage corrective log; work with supervisor to maintain corrective actions

Payroll and Benefits Administration:
  • Administer Benefit policies and support supervisor in compliance; LOA Processing / Time off programs, Open Enrollment coordination and execution for below Director level
  • Interpret and solve benefit and payroll issues; then respond and follow through promptly with support

Onboarding:
  • Responsible for conducting on-boarding orientations
  • Liaison with Operations and Talent Acquisition to ensure all operational systems are available for all new hires prior to start date
  • Assist supervisor in evaluating HR training needs
  • Partner closely with Talent Acquisition to ensure the right talent profile is identified for current and future openings
  • Partner with supervisor to identify ways to improve working practices and procedures for the associate on-boarding experience

Associate Relations:
  • Functions as consultant on associate related matters. As assigned by supervisor, conducts associate relations investigations and makes recommendations on corrective actions
  • Fosters a positive work environment and open communication between managers and associates
  • Partnering with supervisor, investigates, responds and finds solutions to all associate-related complaints in a timely manner
  • Provides guidance to employees on all HR related policies and procedures. (i.e. LOA guidelines, Income Continuation, ESPP, Employee Referral Program,)
  • Understanding of compliance to Ross policies / procedures and legal

Desired Skills and Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 2-3 years of exempt level Human Resources experience 
  • BA/BS preferred
  • Proficiency at an intermediate level in Windows Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work well under the pressure of deadlines
  • Ability to work independently
