Human Resources Generalist

The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office (“MSO”) is seeking a qualified professional for the position of Human Resources Generalist (“Generalist”) to work in the Human Resources Department at the Administrative Office located in Woburn, MA.  The hours of work will be 9:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. Monday through Friday, subject to change at the discretion of management and based on the needs of the Human Resources Department.  The Generalist will primarily be responsible for the organizations retention and ongoing maintenance of Human Resources Department records, including personnel records.  This is a full-time, exempt, at-will employment position.  This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Human Resources.
 
Additional duties and responsibilities of the Generalist include, but are not limited to:
  • Ensuring compliance with all MSO Policies and Procedures, as well as, all applicable Commonwealth of Massachusetts Human Resources Division (“HRD”) guidelines and Massachusetts Statewide Records Retention Schedule requirements as they pertain to Human Resources Department records;
  • Assisting in the completion and submission of any required reporting to comply with federal and state reporting requirements pertaining to personnel records;
  • Ensuring compliance with all American Correctional Association (“ACA”) accreditation reporting requirements pertaining to personnel records and record retention;
  • Assisting, when needed, with administering the MSO benefit incentive testing and classes; 
  • Performing other related work as assigned by the Assistant Director of Human Resources or other employees of higher rank/grade.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The individual selected must be cognizant of the confidential and sensitive nature of a law enforcement agency with the ability to maintain confidentiality for all employees.

QUALIFICATIONS:    
  • Graduate from high school or possess a GED equivalency certificate.  Bachelor’s degree preferred;
  • Prior experience in an office environment, human resources experience preferred;
  • Strong research and analytical skills;
  • Proven ability to follow up clearly and promptly with staff and management;
  • Independently work in a fast-paced environment while handling a large volume of work and paying close attention to detail;
  • Strong oral, written, organizational and time management skills with the ability to maintain comprehensive and cohesive records;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.  Must have an active valid driver’s license, the right to legally operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts and pass a criminal background check, which includes medical, drug (including marijuana) and psychological screenings.
