Job Description

Alabama State University, Office of Human Resources, invites applications to fill the position of Human Resources Generalist (Data/Student Employment) position. This position is responsible for administering the 20 Hour Student Employment program and serving as custodian of official personnel files for university employees, to include staff, faculty and 20-hour students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collects, organizes and enters data pertaining to instructional and non-instructional employees and students into the HRS/PeopleSoft System
  • Makes required changes in Office of Human Resources data in the HRS/PeopleSoft System to ensure the highest degree of accuracy
  • Assists the Human Resource Data/Contract Manager and Payroll staff with all required activities to ensure that each payroll is successfully completed
  • Retrieves data from the HRS/PeopleSoft System in varying formats as required for the work in Office of Human Resources
  • Coordinates with other employees in Office of Human Resources to ensure they properly meet their data entry and retrieval needs
  • Performs word processing functions for Office of Human Resources as required
  • Assists walk-in customers as required
  • Reviews work schedules and assign student workers as required
  • Collaborates with Financial Aid, Records and Registration and other departments in insuring each student assigned on the 20-Hour Student Work Program meets the necessary requirements
  • Maintains operating budget for the 20-Hour Student Work Program
  • Creates contracts on students assigned to the 20-Hour Student Work Program
  • Conducts orientation session for students participating in 20-Hour Student Work Program
  • Develops and maintains a daily work schedule for students assigned to the Office of Human Resources
  • Advises Assistant Vice President of Human Resources of any unsatisfactory performance evaluations on student workers
  • Processes and forwards Sick Leave Bank loan requests to Sick Leave Bank administrator and committee
  • Prepares notification correspondence to employees regarding Sick Leave Bank request results
  • Performs all other job related duties as directed by the immediate supervisor

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or related field, 3 years of Human Resources experience managing student employment, preparing and maintaining personnel files for 1000+ employees, and computer experience to include Oracle, PeopleSoft are required.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of database systems.
  • Ability to work in an isolated area with a minimum amount of supervision.
  • Ability to organize and maintain files on instructional and non-instructional employees and students.
