Job Summary

The HR Generalist provides day-to-day support across key human resources functions, ensuring compliance with federal and state requirements while supporting the overall employee experience. This position is responsible for supporting Human Resources, Payroll, and Benefits Administration. The HR Generalist partners with CFOO and collaborates with the school's outside HR consulting team to ensure policies, processes, and compliance standards are applied consistently and effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administer employee payroll and benefits programs.
  • Develop and enforce HR policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to all labor laws and regulations. Serves as the go-to contact for initial HR inquiries from employees.
  • Maintain payroll and HRIS software and accurate physical and digital employee files.
  • Support the hiring process. Oversee employee onboarding, including educating employees on school policies and procedures, and ensuring that each employee has the required paperwork, not limited to fingerprinting, TB risk assessments, and I-9 acceptable documentation, and is enrolled in the payroll system.
  • Oversee employee offboarding process, including exit interviews, turning in technology, enrollment in COBRA, and termination of benefits.
  • Assist with the employee benefits program, including plan design and annual communication during open enrollment and on an ongoing basis. Reconcile employee health and retirement benefits, and ensure accuracy in all payroll deductions. Coordinates with insurance and payroll vendors to resolve benefit or payroll-related discrepancies.
  • Ensure proper record-keeping and compliance for preschool licensing files. Manages training compliance tracking and filing.
  • Supports CFOO with the development and implementation of compensation policies and the creation of a long-term compensation program. Provide reports and analyses to CFOO on key HR metrics. Benchmark current compensation plans against competitors and current trends in the job market.
  • Collaborate with the CFOO and HR consulting team on employee relations and other HR matters as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of HR principles, practices, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency with HRIS/payroll and benefits platforms such as Ease, Employee Navigator, and Paylocity (or similar).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general data management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a professional, approachable presence.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate discretion at all times.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of HR experience required.
  • Experience with payroll systems and benefits administration required.
  • Familiarity with California employment law preferred.
