Job Description - Human Resources Generalist


Position Summary:  
Under the supervision of the Director of Human Resources and Employee Relations, this position is responsible for the day-to-day operations, organization, and processes that provide maximum support to teachers, administrators, and support staff.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists new employees through the complete onboarding process. 
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Assist employees with benefits during the hiring process, qualifying life events, and open enrollment. 
  • Performs quality checks of benefits-related deductions and data.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants and employees, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Enters new employees into Harpers Payroll system and updates employee information as needed. 
  • Maintaining accurate employee records in applicable databases, including but not limited to MTRS, ASPEN, Navigator, and Frontline.
  • Assists with new-hire orientations and job fairs.
  • Becomes familiar with all Collective Bargaining Agreements. 
  • Tracks college credits submissions and assists the payroll department with transcript reporting.
  • Coordinate with City Retirement and Human Resources staff on benefits-related matters.
  • Coordinates all stipend letters to be presented to the Superintendent.
  • Processes employee requests, including but not limited to suitability letter requests, name and address changes.
  • Becomes familiar with the duties of other team members and assists them with projects in peak flow time, when requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Google Docs.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll software.
  • Ability to work successfully and collaboratively in a deadline-based environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and data integrity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification credential.
  • Experience utilizing Harpers Payroll, MTRS, ASPEN, Navigator, and Frontline

 

 

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field of study, or at least two years of experience in a Human Resources role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of school district structure.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Harpers Payroll and ASPEN.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Google Docs.

Terms of Employment:

 

Fully in person. Twelve-month work year. 

 

 

Salary:

 

This is an exempt non-union position. Salary is commensurate with experience and education. Salary Range: $60,000-$80,000.
