Summary:

The Human Resource Generalist I is responsible for performing a wide range of human resources activities while following established policies and procedures.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Work diligently with HR Analyst, Benefits Manager, and HR Directors to support the Human Resources mission for the company,
  • Update and maintain Safe & Sick, and Vacation request, to include the master list and distributing to senior leadership,
  • Develop, create, and continuously updates job descriptions for all positions,
  • Ensure all new employee data is entered into Bamboo, Vista or Paychex,
  • Responds to and resolve routine human resources inquiries as front line support to employees,
  • Engage professionally with walk-in employees and visitors, including Spanish-speaking individuals, providing clear and accurate information.
  • Ensures appropriate adherence to all employment laws regarding recruitment, recordkeeping, disclosures, compensation, payroll deduction, and benefits administration,
  • Maintains compliance with mandatory notice and ensures applicable notices are posted at each work location,
  • Ensure each new hire has a personnel file that matches Bamboo record,  
  • Handle all governmental-related personnel matters (i.e. EEOC and Unemployment)
  • Serve as a strategic partner in balancing the needs of the organization with the needs of the

employees,

  • Conducts or acquire background checks and employee eligibility verifications,
  • Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs
  • Possess the ability to perform routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to DC Paid Leave, and FMLA leave,
  • Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff,
  • Participates in employee investigations and terminations,
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance,
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources,
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred,
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience required as a HR Assistant or 1 year as a HR Generalist, preferably in a Construction environment,
  • Proficient in both English and Spanish is required.
  • SHRM-CP or HRCI Certification is not required, but highly desired,
  • Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail,
  • Display a clear ability to calmly and independently resolve conflict in a professional manner,
  • Must be able to work independently, meet tight deadlines, and display strong multi-tasking and follow-up skills with a sense of urgency,
  • Utilizes a high degree of discretion, judgement, tact and professionalism, both in person and on the phone,
  • Must maintain and hold high regard for confidentiality,
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer,
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities,
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug & alcohol screening.

 

Note: This is an on-site position and requires the ability to work in the office during standard business hours. Remote or hybrid arrangements are not available for this role.

 

Note: This position is considered Safety-Sensitive, and therefore subject to various schedule and unscheduled screenings for controlled substances.
