Human Resources Manager Position Description

The Human Resources Manager is the senior person responsible for the organization’s human resources functions. This individual manages all aspects of human resources processes to provide a high-quality, responsive, and service-oriented environment for all Lee Montessori staff members.

 

Major Responsibilities

HR and Benefits Administration

  • Serve as main point of contact for staff for all questions related to benefits and payroll
  • Oversee the administration of all employee benefits (including health, transit, vacation, sick leave, FMLA, disability, workers comp., etc.), track employee eligibility, and assist employees with enrollment. Research and provide recommendations for updates and changes to employee benefits
  • Ensure timely timesheet submission and assist our third-party vendor to process semi-monthly payroll for internal staff and payment for contractors; handle payroll issues in coordination with third-party vendor
  • Work closely with third-party vendors to communicate employee benefits programs; host open enrollment meetings, resolve benefits issues for staff, and provide ongoing support

Recruiting and Onboarding

  • Full-cycle recruitment, including identifying and cultivating sources for obtaining quality and diverse talent; writing job postings; and attending outreach events
  • Responsible for communicating and coordinating candidate interviews
  • Maintain candidate selection rubrics to ensure an equitable selection process
  • Manage offer letter and HR onboarding process
  • Manage visa processes for employees who are not US citizens

Employee Relations

  • Respond to employee relations issues, providing consultation, facilitation, mediation, and resolution to others based on their proximity to the issue/team
  • Conduct employee workplace investigations and maintain all proper documentation
  • Maintain documentation of all employee relations records

Performance Evaluation and Talent Management

  • Support the leadership team with the staff performance evaluation process
  • Support managers with creating and implementing employee performance improvement plans
  • Lead faculty/staff contract renewal process

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of legal requirements related to HR, and ensure Lee Montessori’s compliance with relevant laws and regulations
  • Create and maintain employee files and support the annual audit process
  • Complete all required employee-related reports for external parties (e.g., benefits agencies, government).
  • Manage workers’ compensation and unemployment claims.
  • Lead the process for employee accommodations
  • Maintain, update, and ensure accuracy of HR information systems
  • Update the employee handbook annually to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and organizational priorities

Anti-Bias/Anti-Racist Initiatives

  • Implement ABAR strategies aligned to our ABAR commitment, talent strategy, and organizational culture strategy.
  • Partner in the development of resources and supports that further the organization’s ABAR commitment.

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Plan and facilitate internal meetings and lead staff development sessions as needed.
  • We have a small-but-mighty operations team working in a fast-paced school environment. As such, additional duties may be assigned.



Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and other government compliance regulations is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of HR or related work experience as an HR Coordinator or Generalist. SHRM or PHR/SPHR certification preferred.
  • Experience working in a K-12 or non-profit setting, and/or familiarity with talent management issues and challenges facing urban schools, preferred.
  • Highly proficient computer skills with demonstrated knowledge and practical application of Google Docs, Sheets, and other software programs. Previous experience with PayChex and/or BambooHR preferred
  • Exceptional reliability, integrity, and ability to responsibly handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues by using sound judgment that is consistent with policies, procedures, regulations, or federal and state laws.
  • A demonstrated commitment to advancing equity, and proficiency at spotting and addressing issues of race and identity.
  • Excellent attention to detail as well as written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.


Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $78,000 - $90,000 per year plus benefits
