Who We Are
enFocus is a nonprofit organization that promotes economic development in the South Bend-Elkhart region. We do this by attracting talent to our Fellowship and internship programs and placing them on impactful projects for regional sponsors in the private, public, and social sectors.
What You’ll Do
We’re seeking a Human Resources Manager who’s passionate about building strong teams, supporting employee growth, and fostering an inclusive, mission-driven workplace. This HR generalist role will support the full employee lifecycle while driving initiatives that make our workplace vibrant and empowering.
In this role, you’ll manage onboarding and offboarding, orientation, benefits education, disciplinary actions, and our mentorship program. You’ll also implement learning and engagement programs (Professional Development) like Pods and Coffee Chats, and partner closely with leadership to nurture talent across the organization.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Lead onboarding and orientation experiences for new hires, Fellows, and interns
Manage offboarding processes including exit interviews and transition planning
Maintain and update job descriptions and ensure position classifications are current
Support performance management processes and ensure documentation is complete and timely
Oversee employee benefits programs (health, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, etc.)
Serve as liaison between employees and benefits providers
Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
Update and maintain the employee handbook and related policies
Implement and manage the Mentorship Program across Fellows and full-time staff
Facilitate enFocus Professional Development curriculum inluding Pods, Coffee Chats, and learning opportunities
Collaborate with leadership to design and deliver ongoing learning and development experiences
Respond to and resolve employee inquiries, concerns, and workplace conflicts
Conduct and document disciplinary actions in collaboration with leadership
Promote an inclusive and respectful workplace in line with enFocus values
Work cross-functionally with Directors, Project Managers, and Program staff
Maintain personnel records and HRIS systems accurately and confidentially
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
2–5 years of progressive HR experience, with exposure to multiple areas of HR
Knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills with good negotiation tactics.
Proactive and independent with the ability to take initiative.
Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn new software programs
Strong decision-making skills
SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar certification (or willingness to pursue)
Experience in nonprofit, education, or mission-driven organizations
Familiarity with Google Workspace, HRIS platforms, and benefits portals
Job Type
Full-time, permanent position. Salaried, non-exempt.
Location
This position is expected to be located in the South Bend-Elkhart region to work in-person at enFocus offices in South Bend and Elkhart, Indiana, or Niles, Michigan, and on-site at community sponsors; however, Project Managers will also have the flexibility to work remotely on occasion.
