Join a Clinic That Puts People First, Inside and Out

Lorenz Clinic is not your typical healthcare employer. We’re a nationally respected, Minnesota-based mental health practice with a deeply held belief: what happens inside the clinic matters as much as what happens in the therapy room. That means we don’t just deliver excellent mental health services.  We cultivate a workplace where excellence is sustainable and compounding, where staff are treated like humans, and where systems serve people (not the other way around).

With a team of 140 psychotherapists, psychiatric providers, and clinical leaders, we serve communities across Minnesota through a model that is relational, systemic, and anchored in developmental psychology. We also train the next generation of mental health providers through our nationally recognized practicum and fellowship programs, making Lorenz Clinic a trusted institution in workforce development.

As the healthcare landscape grows more volatile and employee burnout threatens the future of care, we’re doubling down on our values.  At Lorenz Clinic, Human Resources is not a back-office function-- it’s a strategic anchor that helps clinicians thrive and systems hold.  We're a people organization, so our People function needs to be top notch.

This role is a rare opportunity to step into a mission-rich, high-impact HR position at a clinic where your work truly matters.

Why This Role Matters

Mental health work is high-stakes and emotionally complex.  HR at Lorenz Clinic is not about formality or “enforcement, " it’s about containment, presence, and wise stewardship.  At a time when the national mental health workforce is burning out, we believe HR can serve as a secure base for our people.  That means we’re looking for someone who understands the strategic importance of relationships and role clarity in a values-driven organization.

Requirements

We’re seeking an experienced HR Manager to serve as the on-site leader of Human Resources at a critical moment in our clinic’s growth and evolution. This role steps into a structure that will be vacated by a long-tenured and respected remote HR Director. The incoming manager will be supported by a thoughtful transition plan that includes onboarding guidance from the outgoing leader, as well as access to institutional knowledge and well-established systems. This is a manager-level role that sits at the heart of our operational core.  The person in this seat will own and execute core HR responsibilities including:

  • Payroll coordination and integrity (in partnership with Billing)
  • Benefits administration and employee communication
  • Performance tracking and evaluation logistics
  • HR policy compliance, documentation, and records management
  • Employee relations, leave coordination, and manager support
  • Recruiting operations, onboarding experience, and exit processing
  • Government and internal HR reporting

The position is ideal for someone with prior end-to-end HR ownership in a small to midsize organization (100–200 employees), preferably in healthcare, education, nonprofit, or another human services setting.  SHRM-CP or equivalent certification is strongly preferred.

Qualifications

  • 5–8 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in healthcare, nonprofit, or services
  • At least 5 years years managing HR operations directly
  • SHRM-CP (strongly preferred) or willingness to pursue
  • Strong grasp of payroll, employment law, and compliance (multi-state experience a plus)
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems (Paylocity preferred)
  • Exceptional judgment, communication skills, and emotional intelligence

What Makes You a Fit

You’re the person who sees the whole board. You can handle complexity without drama and lead with clarity when others are overwhelmed. You’re not looking to do HR from a distance, and you want to be in the building, in the room, in the mix. You believe HR is about protecting people and the system. You’ve worked in environments where you had to earn trust. You understand that healthcare settings are emotionally charged, and that HR is often the quiet force that keeps things moving forward. You know when to speak, when to listen, and when to draw a line.  You’ve probably been told, “You’re the adult in the room," and you took it as a compliment.

Why Lorenz Clinic?

  • Be part of a values-driven, clinician-owned organization navigating real challenges with integrity
  • Work alongside leaders who care deeply about quality, ethics, and each other
  • Help shape one of Minnesota’s leading training institutes in mental health
  • Make a visible difference at a time when mental health workplaces need clarity more than ever
  • No corporate HR spin—just real people trying to do really good work

This is a fully on-site role. No remote or hybrid options are available.
