Human Resources Manager – Benefits & Compliance 

at Cardamom 

Hybrid in Madison, WI or Remote (Anywhere in U.S.) 

 

Your Role: 

We’re looking for a HR professional to own and continuously improve our benefits and compliance programs. This role ensures our employees have a smooth, well-supported experience with benefits while keeping the company compliant across federal, state, and local employment requirements. You’ll be a trusted partner to the VP of People and a go-to resource for employees and leaders on benefits and HR compliance matters. 

 

This role plays a critical part in protecting the company, supporting our people, and ensuring employees feel informed and cared for when it comes to their benefits. You’ll have ownership, visibility, and the opportunity to meaningfully shape how we deliver benefits and stay compliant as we scale. 

 

As a Human Resources Manager at Cardamom, you will: 

Benefits Administration 

  • Own day-to-day administration of all employee benefit programs (medical, life, disability, retirement, wellness, etc.) 
  • Partner with brokers and vendors on renewals, plan changes, enrollments, and issue resolution 
  • Lead annual open enrollment, including employee communications, education, and system configuration 
  • Ensure accurate benefits data, eligibility tracking, and payroll integrations 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefit questions and support 

 

Compliance & Risk Management 

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations (ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, etc.) 
  • Manage benefits-related compliance filings, audits, and reporting 
  • Maintain and update HR policies, employee handbook, and  postings for all states we operate 
  • Monitor regulatory changes and proactively recommend updates to programs or processes 

 

HR Operations & Support 

  • Partner with Delivery Management on employee lifecycle processes (onboarding and background checks, offboarding, leaves of absence, customer onboarding requirements) 
  • Support workers’ compensation, unemployment claims, and related documentation 
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records within our Rippling HRIS 
  • Identify opportunities to streamline benefits and compliance processes through systems and automation 

 

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement 

  • Work closely with Finance, Operations, and external partners 
  • Provide insights and recommendations to improve employee experience, cost management, and risk mitigation 
  • Contribute to broader people initiatives as the organization grows 

 

Our ideal Human Resources Manager will have:  

  • 4–7+ years of experience in Human Resources, with a strong focus on benefits and compliance 
  • Hands-on experience administering benefits and managing open enrollment 
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of U.S. employment laws and benefits regulations 
  • Experience working with HRIS and benefits administration platforms 
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through 
  • Ability to explain complex topics clearly and empathetically to employees 

 

Bonus points for experience with the following: 

  • PHR, SHRM-CP, or related certification 
  • Experience in a growing and/or consulting-based organization 
  • Exposure to multi-state employment compliance
