Teller County's Human Resources Department is looking for an experienced Human Resources Manager to support the Director of Human Resources in executing HR initiatives, including compensation, training, policy development, and employee relations. This role manages sensitive employee matters, ensures consistent policy application, and conducts routine investigations and disciplinary actions. Responsibilities include overseeing leaves, safety programs, performance evaluations, and maintaining HRIS data and personnel files.
What You'll Do:
(1) Assist the HR Director in executing HR initiatives (compensation and classification, training and development, employee handbook, policies and procedures).
(2) Responsible for handling sensitive employee matters including performance concerns, disciplinary actions, terminations, and workplace investigations as assigned, ensuring consistent application of policies.
(3) Oversee unemployment claims, workers’ compensation, safety and risk management, leaves of absence, and performance evaluation programs.
(4) Partner with HR Specialist – Recruiting to ensure job descriptions are up to date and accurately portray the position.
(5) Conduct and analyze exit interviews and make actionable recommendations based on data.
(6) Processes employment verifications and Colorado Open Records Act requests.
(7) Maintain organizational charts, personnel files and HRIS system; conduct periodic internal audits to ensure accuracy and compliance; ensure HR related documents are being retained/destroyed in accordance with record retention guidelines.
(8) Assist HR Director with HR related analytics and make actionable recommendations based on data.
(9) Assist in general day to day operations of the department including responding to internal and external inquiries. Monitor and respond to HR department general email account inquiries.
(10) Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices and regulatory changes in human resources to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
(11) Act as back up to other HR Department positions as needed.
(12) Attend and participate in meetings and training.

Skilled in: use of basic computer software programs; understanding and applying pertinent laws, rules, regulations and policies; using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines; maintaining confidentiality; problem solving and conflict resolution; organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines and following up on assignments with minimum direction and supervision; applying logical thinking to solve problems or accomplish tasks; understanding, interpreting and communicating policies, procedures and protocols; working in a deadline driven environment; initiating and responding to medium volume of daily calls/contact; interacting with all levels of internal and external professionals while developing strong productive relationships; designing strategies, analyzing results and making recommendations; organization and time management.

Additional Details About the Role:
Experience/Education: Bachelors’ degree in human resources strongly preferred; three (3) years’ experience in a progressive Human Resources role; any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.
Visual Acuity/Hearing/Speaking: This position requires the normal range of vision, hearing and speaking; must be able to read and write; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Physical Effort/Dexterity: This position requires light physical exertion and the normal range of motion and dexterity; ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds; ability to perform sedentary office work for prolonged periods of time; ability to stand, bend, stoop and walk; ability to drive a car.
Environmental Factors: Work is generally performed in an office setting with moderate noise; frequent local travel and occasional out of state travel for training.
Work Schedule/Characteristics: 40 hours per week; availability outside normal business hours to include weekends may be required.
License/Certification Requirements: Possession of HR certification strongly preferred; possession of and ability to maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license.
Compensation and Benefits:
Salary range: $83,852 - $88,044
Status: Full-time, Exempt
Location: Cripple Creek, on site
