About the Position 

The Human Resources Specialist (Employee Relations) will serve as a trusted resource for Firm personnel across all areas of the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, employee relations, performance management, and compliance. This role will provide day-to-day HR support with a broader commitment to firm culture and strategic goals. This is a position with firm wide responsibility thus occasional travel to our offices is required. This position is currently a hybrid role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct new hire HR overview training, orienting employees to firm policies, culture and HR resources
  • Partner with managers to onboard and train new hires, ensuring a structured and supported transition into the firm
  • Conduct 90-day check-ins with new hires to monitor integration
  • Provide support to newly hired or newly promoted supervisors including management training, policy guidance, coaching on performance management and employee relations issues, and ongoing consultation to ensure effective leadership transition and team success
  • Provide ongoing coaching to managers on effective leadership, communication methods and employee development
  • Handle employee relations counseling including outplacement, assist managers in the progressive disciplinary system of the Firm and monitor the implementation of performance improvements plans (PIPs)
  • Identify and address performance gaps early, partnering with managers to develop tailored improvement strategies
  • Partner with HR leadership and legal counsel as appropriate on complex ER and compliance matters
  • Assist with workplace investigations
  • Oversee the termination process; advise employees on their rights, conduct exit interviews and identify trends for HR leadership
  • Support the end-to-end preparation and facilitation of the annual performance review cycle, serving as a primary point of contact for PerformYard administration and partnering with managers to drive timely, consistent execution
  • Lead mid-year check-in process to monitor performance trajectory and engagement
  • Serve as a trusted HR resource for all firm personnel, providing timely guidance on workplace matters and HR programs
  • Draft employment status related letters
  • Plan and execute employee recognition events that reinforce firm culture and values
  • Contribute to the development and administration of programs, procedures, and guidelines to help align the workforce with strategic goals of the firm
  • Oversee mandated firmwide training, including harassment prevention, workplace violence prevention and other required trainings
  • Maintain current knowledge of employment law changes and proactively advise HR leadership and managers on implications
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws regarding employment, postings, filings and notices
  • Communicate Human Resources policies, procedures, programs and laws to firm personnel
  • Various projects as assigned by direct supervisor

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field required, along with a minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience, included demonstrated experience managing employee relations matters. PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred. Prior legal industry experience is preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates sound judgment and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Able to multi-task, prioritize effectively, and work with minimal supervision
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the firm
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Windows applications
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws
  • Experience with Ultimate Software (UKG) preferred

Compensation

Allen Matkins is an Equal Opportunity Employer and offers a competitive compensation & benefits package. The anticipated base salary range for this full-time role is $90,000 - $120,000 per year. Actual salary will depend upon a number of factors, including, but not limited to, relevant experience, job-related skills, qualifications, and location. 

The base salary range displayed on the job posting reflects the estimated range for new hire salaries for the position. The actual offered base salary will be determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, relevant experience, job-related skills and qualifications. The pay range is subject to change at any time dependent on a variety of internal and external business factors.
