Job Summary: The Safety Training Manager is responsible for design, maintenance, implementation, delivery, and management of safety development for HOLT. This includes federal and state safety guidelines/requirements (OSHA, MSHA, MEWP, etc.) and all other safety training content/services. Recommends and leads strategic development projects, curates content, and consults/coordinates with VP of Safety and Environmental in alignment with our safety culture. 

The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices daily: 1) Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values; 2) Collaborate with key internal/external resources; 3) Participate in ongoing self-development.

 

Essential Functions:

• Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission

• Researches, recommends, and delivers new content/enhancements in alignment with our safety culture and Values Based Leadership™ philosophy

• Recruit, develop, and supervise safety training and operator training staff to include hiring, providing support and direction, prioritizing projects, alignment with our Values Based Leadership™ and safety culture, and providing clarity/accountability for safety developmental outcomes

• Conduct needs assessments for safety development and evaluate outcomes/ROI including high-quality, interactive instructor-led training, coaching, custom workshops, co-facilitation with safety dept., and leadership development

• Forecast, budget, and promote safety developmental resources

• Partners with operational partners to evaluate, design, curate, and deliver product specific safety training

• Serve as a resource for other Holt University business units to ensure collaboration, content integration, and appropriate safety content 

• Works safely always and adheres to all applicable safety policies; comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards

• Performs other duties as assigned

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong knowledge of fundamental management techniques and ability to regulate leadership in alignment with the SLII model

• Strong knowledge of principles of adult learning theory, instructional systems design, and needs assessment techniques

• Strong knowledge of federal and state safety training requirements, initiatives, and key content delivered by safety development team

• Strong knowledge of best practices for teaching and learning, industry standards, terminology, instructional design, and technical requirements

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office products; Excel, Outlook, Word, Smartsheet, etc. 

• Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills

• Experience applying ADA or Section 508 compliance standards with instructor-led classroom situations

• Strong planning and coordination skills

• Sound decision-making and judgment skills

• Proven customer service skills

• Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects and deal effectively with employees and management

• Ability to produce quality results using rapid development models and tools

• Ability to work independently as well as a part of a diversified team

 

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in education, organizational development, project management, business, or Certified Safety Professional

• Six years of training/development experience required

• Six years of related experience or an equivalent combination delivering safety content in industrial applications preferred

• Supervisory or mentoring/coaching experience preferred

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position directs and manages employees within the assigned area of responsibility. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; coaching and development; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

Travel:

• Up to 20% travel

 

Physical Requirements:

• This position involves extended periods in a stationary position and occasionally a standing position when delivering class; additionally, occasional movement inside the office to access office machinery, file cabinets, etc.

• This position involves extended periods in on-site application, including construction sites, shop environments, warehouses, etc. This may include bending, rigging, kneeling, and tool manipulation

• This role frequently communicates with others, must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations

• This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc.

• Occasionally moves or transports items weighing up to 50 pounds

 

Work Environment:

• Work primarily performed in a professional office environment or suitably equipped home office

• Frequently works at fast pace with unscheduled interruptions
