POSITION: Senior HR Manager – Private Family Household
LOCATION: Remote with the ability to work onsite as needed (Atherton, CA, 94027)
SCHEDULE: Full-time, occasional after-hours availability
COMPENSATION: $150K–$220K DOE + benefits
Position Summary
The Senior HR Manager will oversee and manage all human resources functions for a private family estate consisting of domestic, property, and operational staff. This role requires a seasoned HR professional who is discreet, highly organized, service-minded, and capable of independently running all HR operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruiting & Hiring
- Manage all recruiting for 10+ hires annually
- Write job descriptions and work with agencies to find qualified domestic staff. Screen, interview, and evaluate candidates
- Conduct background checks and verify employment eligibility
- Onboarding & Offboarding
- Prepare and deliver offer letters and employment agreements
- Run new hire orientation and trainings
- Set up payroll, documentation, and systems access
- Manage terminations and exit processes professionally and discreetly
- HR Operations
- Maintain confidential personnel files
- Oversee performance reviews, ongoing training, and employee development plans
- Coordinate workplace scheduling, classifications, and compliance
- Provide coaching and support to staff, while driving company objectives
- Address interpersonal issues privately and diplomatically
- Keep household leadership informed of key issues and trends
- Compliance
- Maintain compliance with California labor laws
- Manage workers’ compensation, safety documentation, and training
- Oversee confidential workplace investigations when needed
Qualifications
- 5+ years HR leadership experience
- Experience with private households, UHNW family offices, or luxury hospitality
- Strong communication, discretion, and judgment
- Ability to operate independently without daily oversight
- Knowledge of California employment law
