About the Opportunity

Under strategic guidance, develop, implement, and deliver strategic Human Resources programs such as talent management, workforce planning, employee relations, compensation & benefits, retention, performance management, change management, diversity management, policies and procedures, HR reporting, project management, training & development, as well as manage staff within a global environment. Ensure key objectives are met in collaboration with management objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and/or RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides day-to-day leadership to department's staff including but not limited to selecting, hiring, training, coaching, mentoring, disciplining, work assignments, performance evaluations and conflict resolution; develops personal growth opportunities for staff.

2. Prepares department annual budget for staff, operating expenses, accountable for the fiscal operation of the department.

3. Identifies, designs and implements general HR strategies and solutions to achieve agreed outcomes relating to: organizational design, organizational change, performance management, workforce and strategic planning and other HR activities inclusive of effective negotiation and consultation with staff.

4. Ensures team promotes and sustains a high standard of professional global recruitment practices and methodologies. Understands and manages immigration, visa, and foreign country labor law.

5. Champions the compensation and benefits issues including sales incentive plans, executive compensation, employee incentive plans.

6. Partners with senior management in the management of self-insured benefit plans. Executes plan design strategies balancing employee and employer needs while utilizing cost containment provisions.

7. Provides counseling and conflict resolution with managers and employees while investigating grievances to ensure understanding of performance expectations.

8. Partners with the leadership team to understand and execute the organization's human resource and talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning.

9. Champions the talent acquisition process, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and collaborating with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.

10. Liaise for internal (JSOX, NIMS) and external audit (KPMG, Nitto Japan) processes including responding to those requests.

11. Ensures compliance with Federal, State, local employment laws, and regulations to execute Human Resources programs including program review and incorporate best practices.

12. Executes plan design strategies balancing employee and employer needs while utilizing cost containment provisions. Administers self-insured benefit plans.

13. Provides performance management guidance to line management as necessary (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).

14. Coaches and advises employees and managers on employee relations issues, providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.

15. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field; and 10 years' experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Five (5) years' minimum direct management of Human Resources staff required; in a manufacturing environment, preferred.
  • Foreign-owned company experience, a plus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and/or ABILITIES:

1. Expert knowledge of human resources trends in regulatory changes, talent management, succession planning, employment law and human resources technology and apply the best practices.

2. Solid knowledge in understanding and interpretating Federal, State, and local employment laws as well as compliance.

3. Working knowledge and experience in managing a broad range of HR issues including performance management, workforce planning, employee relations, HR planning, change management, compensation, and benefits. Basic to intermediate level understanding of compensation including incentive plans, required.

4. Ability to lead, direct and/or influence others to obtain results using a wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

5. Exceptional ability to consider the relative costs, risks and benefits of potential actions and determine the most appropriate option to achieve business objectives.

6. Ability to hire, train, develop, evaluate, lead and direct work and discipline staff, taking corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policies and Federal, State, and local regulations.

7. Excellent verbal and written English communication skills to read and comprehend highly complex instructions, procedures and/or correspondence while working in a cross cultural/functional matrix organization.

8. Strong planning and organizational skills and follow through with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment and pivot with changing priorities. Ability to handle sensitive confidential information in completing assignments.

9. Proficient in prioritizing work to meet deadlines, and multi-task while maintaining flexibility in a fast-paced complex manufacturing team environment while working in accordance with Nitto's Business Conduct Guidelines.

10. Strong interpersonal skills to successfully lead a team and communicate across a functional matrix organization.

11. Intermediate use of computers and Microsoft Office Suite Applications such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and JD Edwards, benefit software platforms and human resources software applications such ADPWFN and SAP, Success Factors.

12. Work independently and foster a cooperative spirit within a large and/or small team of diverse cultures.

13. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations; apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.

14. Provide high-level customer service through effective interpersonal skills and conflict resolution, with an emphasis on team building and conflict resolution.

15. Exceptional application of critical thinking skills to identify and analyze issues and business problems. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Strong capability to analyze, research and find solutions to these issues according to Nitto's Business Conduct Guidelines.

16. Strong attention to detail, planning, organizational, and customer service skills, good follow-through with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

17. Work independently and foster a cooperative spirit within a large and/or small team of diverse cultures, and leading team members to do the same.

18. Bilingual or multi-lingual in languages frequently used within the Nitto Group of Companies a plus.

19. Experience working with Japanese corporate entities.

CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES:

  • Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR); and,
  • Society for Human Resources Management Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), strongly preferred.
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), a plus.
