Location: Long Island, NY area 

Overview

A leading nonprofit healthcare and human services organization, serving thousands of individuals across Long Island, is seeking an experienced and highly qualified Vice President of Human Resources & Workforce Strategy. This senior HR executive will join the leadership team and oversee a large department supporting more than 3,000 employees.

This role reports directly to the Chief Administrative Officer and will be a strategic partner to the executive management team, driving HR initiatives that foster a culture of excellence, inclusion, and engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all Human Resources functions, including talent acquisition, engagement, professional development, employee relations, compensation, benefits, HRIS, and analytics.
  • Ensure effective talent acquisition strategies across multiple business lines to maintain staffing with qualified, mission-driven employees.
  • Direct professional development programs and implement initiatives to support employee growth, advancement, and retention.
  • Champion a workplace culture that embraces diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Oversee employee engagement strategies, including recognition programs, benefits, and appreciation initiatives.
  • Ensure a competitive and compliant benefits package, supporting retention while mitigating organizational risk.
  • Partner with senior leadership and board members in strategic planning and execution of long-term workforce initiatives.
  • Collaborate with DEI leadership to promote and implement inclusion-focused practices and training.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree and HR credentials (SHRM-SCP, SPHR, etc.) strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources Management.
  • Proven success leading HR initiatives in complex organizations; nonprofit or healthcare/human services experience preferred.
  • Expertise across multiple HR domains, including labor relations, compliance, analytics, and professional development.
  • Strong knowledge of federal/state employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Demonstrated success designing and executing organization-wide initiatives that drive measurable outcomes.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
