    Chief People Officer

    The Chief People Officer (CPO) is a mission-driven executive who reports directly to the CEO and partners closely with the Board and senior leadership. This role is responsible for aligning People’s strategies with organizational goals to ensure that HR practices reinforce the credit union’s vision, brand promise, and guiding principles. The CPO leads the People & Culture functions, overseeing Learning and Development, Talent Management, Compensation and Benefits, and Team Member Experience. The position ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations while fostering a member-centric, inclusive, and high-performing culture. This is an onsite position in Lakeland, Florida.

    What you will do… 

    • Oversee the salary structure and grades of the organization to ensure it aligns with market data to mitigate unnecessary turnover. Prepares, coordinates and analyzes salary surveys to compare the financial institution's pay rates with those of competitors. Participate in preparation of recommended salary rate changes as appropriate to establish and maintain competitive rates.
    • Participates in the preparation and distribution of written and verbal information to inform employees of benefits programs, such as insurance plans, retirement plans and paid time off.
    • Plans and directs activities of staff in carrying out such functions as developing sources of qualified applicants, conducting interviews, checking references and background and arranging for initial orientation and training of newly hired employees. Keeping records concerning recruitment, interviews, hires, transfers, promotions and terminations. Assists in the preparation of job descriptions for positions in the financial institution.
    • Design and oversee a comprehensive training and development framework for employees at all levels.
    • Establish and lead leadership development programs for executives, senior leaders, emerging leaders, and high-potential employees.
    • Partner with business leaders to identify skills gaps and deliver targeted training programs (technical, compliance, leadership, and professional skills)
    • Oversee onboarding programs to ensure new hires are effectively integrated and prepared for success.
    • Promote a culture of continuous learning through workshops, certifications, coaching, mentoring, and learning platforms.
    • Measure and report on the effectiveness of training and development initiatives, including impact on engagement and performance.
    • Establish credibility throughout the organization and act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, offering creative solutions to business and engagement challenges.
    • Strategy for compensation and benefits (total rewards).
    • Develop and execute comprehensive learning and development plans, using analytics to monitor and update training programs.
    • Lead continuous improvement efforts in talent acquisition, diversity and inclusion, compensation and benefits, payroll, leadership coaching, goal setting, and performance management.
    • Design and implement initiatives to support people growth, organizational health, and engagement, including benchmarking and predictive analytics.
    • Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to People & Culture staff and guidance to leaders and executives/senior leaders on professional and organizational growth.
    • Partner with all levels of leadership to create and sustain a culture aligned with the credit union’s core values, revising key HR programs as needed.
    • Determine recruiting, compensation, benefits strategies, and lead recruitment efforts.
    • Ensure compliance with all related regulations and laws and respond to legal contracts and EEOC matters.
    • Monitor local, regional, economic, financial, industry, and political events that could impact the credit union.
    • Develop succession plan with the CEO & Board.
    • Manages and oversees employee investigations and employment related complaints.
    • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

     

    What you will need… 

    • Minimum of 15 years of progressive HR leadership experience, preferably in a credit union or cooperative environment.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
    • SPHR or equivalent HR certification preferred.
    • Expertise knowledge in Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Title VII and other employment laws, Family Medical Leave Act & Americans with Disabilities Act, ERISA, & National Labor Relations Board.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Successful track record of building and maintaining professional relationships at all levels.
    • Ability to lead a diverse team and manage resources effectively.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills to prioritize multiple tasks.
    • Demonstrated success in leading, directing, and developing teams and individuals.
    • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
