Job Duties

To provide subject matter expert guidance in the areas of human resources, employee and labor relations, employee benefits, workers’ compensation, retirement, short term disability, long term disability, performance management, and other general HR functional areas. This position will foster positive relationships between employees and management by resolving conflicts, ensuring fair policy application, and promoting engagement, acting as a neutral liaison to handle grievances, investigations, disciplinary issues, and compliance with labor laws, ultimately aiming for a healthy, productive work environment.

Successful candidate should possess:

• Ability to act in the capacity of essential personnel during emergency/crisis situations.
• Advanced knowledge of Employee Relations, FMLA, EEO, FLSA, DOL, Workers’ Comp and other HR Laws and Regulations.
• Ability to supervise staff.
• Excellent project management skills with the ability to set and fulfill priorities with demonstrated strong time management capabilities.
• Demonstrated ability to operate as a self-starter, to set goals, and to develop and implement strategies for meeting and achieving these goals with minimal oversight.
• Ability to review employee discipline and grievance processes for consistency, following policies, and for fairness.
• Must possess the ability to design and present training materials and programs.
• Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the division to include staff, supervisors and administrators.
• Advanced level computer skills, including thorough knowledge of MS Office suite of products.
• Ability to prepare reports utilizing MS Office Products and applications.
• Ability to interpret relevant policies and to independently work and make decisions involving sensitive issues.
• Ability to analyze data, organize information and provide reports to the hospital leadership team.
• Skilled in preparing HR data analytics such as Turnover, Short Term Disability, and Worker’s Compensation, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

• Considerable experience in Employee Relations, Benefits, Leave Programs, and Worker’s Compensation required.
• Previous supervisor experience required.
• Prior experience conducting investigations required.
• Prior experience in employee & labor relations matters required.

Additional Considerations

• HRCI or SHRM certification preferred.
• Previous HR experience within Commonwealth of Virginia employment preferred.
• Knowledge of State Human Resource policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of State Grievance.
• Advanced knowledge of State Benefits.
