Description of Work

This position is dedicated to strengthening the work environment by offering programs, consultation, and assistance to DEQ employees and managers that will enhance working relationships between and among employees and supervisors. This position supports the Employee Relations (ER) and the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) managers, providing sound guidance while implementing federal and state law, policy, and procedure. This position partners with other members of the division to identify, develop and present training on a variety of Human Resources programs and policies.

Other Key Responsibilities:

Provides ER and EEO consultation to DEQ employees and managers.

Prepares and monitors grievance materials and processes.

Conducts workplace investigations.

Administers the employee satisfaction survey process and the exit interview process.

The DEQ Division of Human Resources develops, administers, and maintains programs and services that assist and enhance employees’ abilities to carry out the DEQ mission and further DEQ initiatives. This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays. The NC Department of Environmental Quality trusts our employees to be self-motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management. 

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree, typically in Human Resources or related field from an appropriately accredited institution and 2 years of experience required; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and 5 years of progressive experience in Human Resources; or equivalent combination or education and experience.
