Overview

The Employee Relations Specialist plays a key role in fostering a positive, productive workplace culture. This position partners closely with managers and employees to ensure fair and consistent application of company policies, resolve employee concerns, and support HR programs that align with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to managers and employees by providing expert guidance on HR policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Partner with business units on workforce planning, restructures, and succession planning initiatives.
  • Conduct thorough, impartial investigations into complex employee relations issues, including complaints, policy violations, and disciplinary matters; manage employee separations when required.
  • Lead regular check-ins with assigned business units to build strong relationships and anticipate HR needs.
  • Provide day-to-day performance management support, including coaching, counseling, career development, and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with leaders to enhance workplace relationships, strengthen morale, and improve retention and productivity.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and update policies and procedures as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records, including the employee handbook, organizational charts, and directories.
  • Stay current on HR trends, best practices, and regulatory changes, sharing insights and recommendations with the HR team.
  • Participate in HR projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience handling complex employee relations issues required; union environment experience preferred.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HR disciplines, including employee/union relations, performance management, and employment law.
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and strong technological skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build credibility and trust across all levels of the organization.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to thrive in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
