Overview

HR Assistant:  I-9 and Background Verification Specialist – Temp to Perm 

We are seeking a detail-oriented HR Assistant to join our Human Resources team, specializing in I-9 compliance and background verification processes. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring our organization maintains legal compliance and hires qualified individuals.  This position is flexible on location but would prefer candidate that could be onsite at our client in Mclean, VA. 

 

Responsibilities:

I-9 Compliance

  • Complete and process I-9 forms for all new hires within required timeframes
  • Verify employment eligibility documents and maintain accurate records
  • Conduct periodic audits of I-9 forms to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Stay updated on changing I-9 regulations and implement necessary process updates

Background Verification

  • Initiate and manage background checks for job candidates and employees
  • Review background check results and flag any discrepancies or concerns
  • Communicate with candidates regarding background check processes and results
  • Maintain confidentiality of all background check information

General HR Support

  • Assist with onboarding procedures for new employees
  • Maintain employee files and HR databases with accurate and up-to-date information
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding HR policies and procedures
  • Support other HR initiatives and projects as needed

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience in HR, preferably with focus on I-9 compliance and background checks
  • Strong knowledge of I-9 regulations and employment eligibility verification processes
  • Familiarity with FCRA guidelines and background check procedures
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities
  • Proficiency in HRIS and ATS software (Workday preferred)
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
