General Description:  

Under the direction of the Human Resources Director, the Human Resource Generalist will assist in running the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources (HR) department. Primary areas of responsibility will be performance management and training and development, however they will collaborate closely with the HR team to divide responsibilities, cross‑train, and provide seamless coverage. 

 

Responsibilities and Duties:  

  1. Create and implement effective training programs aligned with VSA’s goals and employeee development needs.  
  2. Produce engaging training materials and resources, including online courses and instructional content for various learning styles.
  3. Conduct organizational needs assessments to identify skill gaps and training requirements.
  4. Monitor and assess the effectiveness of training programs through feedback surveys, performance metrics, and return on investment analysis.
  5. Collaborate with department heads to prioritize learning initiatives
  6. Track and maintaining training progress and records.
  7. Improve and administer performance appraisal processes, assist in setting performance goals, and provide guidance on employee development.
  8. Assist in coordination of injury reports and related forms for workers’ compensation claims according to internal policy and procedures. 
  9. Assist with the administration of company-wide human resources policies, procedures, and practices in accordance with company objectives and federal and state legal requirements.
  10. Coordinate and conduct employee relation activities and programs, including but not limited to employee counseling, interpretation of policies, new employee orientation, and employee recognition programs.  
  11. Assist Human Resources with mentoring entry-level HR staff.  
  12. Other duties as assigned.

 

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS 

 

General Education:     Associate's Degree                                   Major:  Human Resources, Business or related discipline

 


Job-Related Experience:  

5+ years of experience in HR, with a strong background in training and development. An equivalent combination of training and experience may substitute for a degree. 

 

Certifications:  

SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification is preferred.  

 

Licenses, etc.:  

Valid driver's license is necessary when operating a vehicle while on agency business.  

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT 

 

Knowledge:  

  • Comprehensive knowledge of management practices and principles including recruitment & selection, position classification, job analysis, and job evaluation. 
  • Considerable knowledge of human resource laws, rules, regulations to include: FLSA and overtime rules and regulations. 
  • Working knowledge of the Human Resources laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, detailed knowledge of leave and disability programs.  
  • Working knowledge of Cobra requirements, FMLA, ADA and other employee related programs.  
  • Considerable knowledge of personal computers and Human Resource Information Systems individual systems. 
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and e-learning platforms to design and deliver online training.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, e.g. compute benefit and/or retirement calculations.

 

Skills:  

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills within all levels of the organization to effectively convey information to diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and highly organized with attention to detail. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and/or related programs, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong proficiency in analyzing training needs and evaluating the effectiveness of training programs to ensure alignment with business objectives.

 

Abilities:  

  • Demonstrated ability to address multiple projects simultaneously within established timeframes. 
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, e.g. compute benefit and/or leave calculations.  
  • Ability to work in a high-volume and fast paced environment.  
  • Self-disciplined

 

Physical Demands:  

Work is light requiring lifting of computer equipment and involves typical office behaviors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds.
