Job Summary:

The HR Generalist develops, manages, coordinates, and administers a variety of programs and activities covering multiple HR activities, including hiring and interviewing staff. This position also acts as back-up to the Payroll and Benefits Specialist, requiring Paycom knowledge and experience.

The HR Generalist establishes trusted relationships with employees, managers and leadership, providing effective issue resolution, and using judgment consistent with Federal and State employment laws and regulations. The Generalist ensures support, services, policies, and procedures are delivered in line with Van Marcke Trade Supply and HR “best practices”.

HR Generalist Responsibilities:

· Contribute to internal transfers that take place within the organization (analyze the needs for each position and the profile of an employee who can take the job).

· Keep up to date with the employee relations climate and support implementation of actual changes in related laws and regulations, so that the organization’s policies remain current, relevant and legal.

· Administer/participate in grievance and disciplinary procedures.

· Perform administrative duties related to the processing of payroll and delivery of benefits, as needed, and assist employees with all aspects of payroll and benefits.

· Administer exit procedures.

· Implement employee recognition program.

· Complete project work (e.g., update local policy/procedures, employee handbooks).

· Maintain accurate records for individual employees regarding pay rates, shift details, promotions, transfers and sick leave etc.

· Implement personnel policies, administrative standards and procedures, and office operations.

· Assist in administration of performance management process.

· Assist in coordination of training activities, e.g. participants’ notifications, preparation of venue and training materials, coordination of training evaluations.

Recruitment & Hiring Responsibilities:

· Recruit, interview, and facilitate the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions.

· Collaborate with departmental managers to identify required skills and competencies.

· Conduct or acquire background checks and employee eligibility verifications.

· Ensure standard operating procedures within area of responsibility are observed.

· Participate in preparation of employment contracts and offers of selected candidates.

· Implement and conduct new hire orientation.

· Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.

Education and Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or Finance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

· 3-5 years of experience in an HR Generalist and Staffing role

· At least 3 years of demonstrated knowledge and experience working with and applying Federal and State employment laws and regulations

· Strong knowledge of Payroll & Benefits, including experience with the Paycom platform

· Compensation knowledge is a plus

· Proficiency with MS Office required, advanced Excel skills strongly preferred

· Thorough knowledge of COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA and ERISA requirements

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

· Regular computer use throughout the day, ability to sit for lengthy periods of time

· Stand and walk for periods of time up to one hour in an 8-10-hour day

· Talk, see, and hear to interact with leadership, staff and associates

· Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

· Lift/push/pull/carry various objects of 5-25 pounds on occasion
