Job Title: HR Generalist

Position Summary:

Wausau Tile is seeking a knowledgeable, organized, and people-focused HR Generalist to support day-to-day human resources operations across the organization. This role is responsible for administering core HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, and HR data management. The HR Generalist serves as a trusted resource for employees and leaders, ensuring consistent application of HR policies while supporting a positive, compliant, and engaged workplace culture. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, approachable, and capable of managing multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Recruitment & Onboarding:

  • Coordinate full-cycle recruiting efforts including job postings, candidate screening, interviewing, and hiring documentation.
  • Facilitate new hire onboarding and orientation to ensure a smooth and compliant employee experience.
  • Maintain accurate recruitment and onboarding records in accordance with company procedures and employment laws.

 

Employee Relations & Support:

  • Serve as a first point of contact for employee questions regarding policies, benefits, and HR procedures.
  • Support managers with performance management, coaching, and employee relations matters.
  • Assist with workplace investigations, conflict resolution, and documentation as needed.

 

Benefits & Leave Administration:

  • Administer employee benefits programs including enrollments, changes, and employee education.
  • Coordinate leave of absence administration (FMLA, ADA, personal, and medical leaves).
  • Act as a liaison with benefits providers and payroll to ensure accurate and timely processing.

 

Compliance & Policy Administration:

  • Ensure HR practices comply with federal, state, and local employment laws (including Wisconsin regulations).
  • Assist with maintaining and updating HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook content.
  • Support audits, reporting, and required postings and filings.

HR Administration & Data Management:

  • Maintain employee personnel files and HRIS records with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Prepare HR reports and metrics related to headcount, turnover, recruiting, and compliance.
  • Support HR projects such as training initiatives, engagement efforts, and process improvements.

 

Specific Tasks:

  • Coordinate and track recruitment activities and hiring documentation.
  • Administer onboarding, benefits enrollment, and employee status changes.
  • Maintain accurate HRIS data and personnel records.
  • Respond to employee inquiries and provide guidance on HR policies and procedures.
  • Assist with performance review cycles and training coordination.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and internal policies.
  • Prepare routine HR reports and documentation for leadership.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, reaching, and repetitive wrist/hand motions.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally.

Qualifications:

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2 Years of HR experience in a generalist or similar role.
  • Working knowledge of federal and Wisconsin employment laws (FMLA, ADA, wage & hour, EEO).
  • Experience using HRIS/payroll systems and Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting manufacturing or operational environments.
  • Advanced Excel skills for reporting and data analysis.
  • Experience supporting employee engagement or training initiatives.
