Job Duties:

The Division of Information Technology (DoIT) has an opening for an HR Generalist. DoIT is an exciting and dynamic work environment grounded in organizational principles that include family and personal life/work balance; an inclusive, respectful, and supportive work environment; professional development opportunities; innovation; and alignment with the campus's teaching, learning, and research missions.  DoIT provides core IT infrastructure services to the university, develops and implements services for the university and in some cases, for the Universities of Wisconsin, plays a major role in managing the state-wide higher education network and regional networks.

The UW-Madison Division of Information Technology has an opening for an HR Generalist! This is a fast-paced and exciting position in a flexible work environment. Join our team in providing excellent customer service and centralized HR team support related to monitoring service accounts, reviewing and processing HR transactions, creating, analyzing and maintaining various HR specific reports, performance management support, mandatory training compliance, supporting medical and paid parental leave of absences, time and absence reporting and support, orientations, on- and off-boarding support work, employment verifications and work authorizations, and other related areas. 

The candidate selected for this position may perform a combination of on-site and remote work subject to an approved flexible work arrangement (FWA), which is reviewed and approved annually. Remote work requires successful candidates to possess their own high-speed internet and phone to perform the work on a university-provided computer. Per University policy, transportation between home and assigned work location is not payable/reimbursable and will be at the expense of the employee.

This position will initially last one year, with the possibility of extending the position up to a maximum of two years and/or it may turn into an ongoing appointment based on program need and funding availability.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Represents unit/program at institutional workshops, informational meetings, and training sessions
  • Supports assigned areas of a divisional human resources office, which may include a combination of the following: workforce relations, performance management, time and absence, compliance, and/or general HR administration
  • Provides consultation, performs analytics, and/or maintains personnel files, communications, and materials for work unit through various mediums
  • Receives, responds to, and resolves employee questions and problems 
  • Contributes to the development, implementation, interpretation, and revision of work unit Human Resources policies and procedures according to institutional and legal rules and regulations
  • Executes and audits work transactions and changes adhering to established policies and procedures to meet anticipated deadlines

Compensation:

Starting salary will be based on experience and qualifications. Well qualified applicants can expect to earn between $55,000 - $65,000, with final salary based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience working within an HRIS system such as Workday, including tasks such as workflow initiation, reporting, and data auditing
  • Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing Microsoft word, Excel and PowerPoint for document creation, data analysis, and presentation development
  • Knowledge of FMLA regulations and leave administration practices
  • Experience running and auditing cyclical reports
  • Professional experience sharing information in one-on-one and group settings, through various mediums
  • Effective in managing follow-up actions and ensuring accuracy in documentation and communication to uphold compliance standards
  • Professional experience in a HR office with a focus on team support and cross-functional collaboration

Education:

Associate's Degree Preferred
