The Human Resources Generalist will consistently and proactively work to maximize the value of Summit Hill Foods through continuous improvement, driving EVA growth, and being a champion of the HPWP culture. The HR Generalist performs Human Resources related duties at the professional level and may carry out responsibilities in some or all of the following functional areas: Employee relations, recruiting, training and development, benefits, compensation, organizational development, employment practices, and Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS). This position proactively supports all company needs.
Organizational Relationships
This position reports to the Human Resources Manager.
Position Responsibilities & Duties
- Promotes and supports the development of a high performance workforce through effective staffing.
- Facilitates the interview process in conjunction with the hiring manager and/or production hiring committee team.
- Interviews, screens, references, and recruits job applicants to fill entry level, professional, and technical job openings through advertising agencies and related sources.
- Provide assistance to managers in profiling ideal candidates and developing strategies for attracting these candidates.
- Conducts exit interviews and analyzes data and makes recommendations to the management team for corrective action and continuous improvement.
- Assist in administering benefits & compensation programs/performance management systems, performance reviews, collect/analyze compensation information, perform job analyses/evaluations and provide consultation/analytical support to management.
- Assist in determining wage rates and salary ranges to assure internal and external equity of pay.
- Assist in the determination and communication of benefit policies and programs
- Monitor/approve/follow through EPA process for production and administrative employees.
- Monitoring employee garnishments by informing the employee
- Monitoring Paid absence, Short term disability, and Long Term benefit programs.
- Monitoring pay increase performance to pay increase budgeting
- Assisting employees with benefit claims.
- Facilitating the day-to-day activities of FMLA, Military leaves, disability, and benefit plans, as well as answering routine HR questions and requests
- Partners with employees and management to communicate various Human Resources policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations.
- Represents the company for any unemployment claims.
- Auditing channels of communication for business information and consulting on processes for continuous improvement.
- Identify development opportunities, and establish training plans to continually raise organizational capabilities and foster a high-performance culture.
- Coach managers within the organization on practices and policy that support HPWP regarding coaching and counseling.
- Makes recommendations and offer guidance to department managers for next steps to assure expectations are met.
- Employ innovative ideas to utilize and maximize the talent of existing and new team members.
- Initiate, support, and reinforce employee involvement strategies
- Assist the department managers in establishing career paths and lines of progression.
- Facilitates and/or provides training (including orientation) to the workforce.
- Respond to employee relations issues such as employee concerns and/or complaints
- Serve as an expert resource, and occasionally as a facilitator, for company problem-solving activities.
- Manage employee services and compliance to regulatory concerns and reporting
- Maintains and coordinates employee recognition programs.
- Insures compliance in all government filings for all employee related matter.
- Internal contacts are most typically Production, Quality, Maintenance, Sanitation, Purchasing, Administrative, Management and Safety personnel.
- External contacts include governmental agencies, industry contacts, insurance carriers, state training representatives and applicable community boards.
Assignments to this position are made with some detail per goals and objectives and work is reviewed accordingly. Other work assignments to this position are made under minimal supervision for benefits and employee services administration. Exercises routinely independent judgment and actions.
This position requires a physical presence in the plant(s) 20% -30% of the time with the remainder spent in a typical office environment. Some travel may be required.

Educational/Experience Level:
- 3-5 years’ experience as a Human Resources professional.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management or a related field preferred.
1st shift hours: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Monday through Friday work schedule
At least 3 days required onsite
