About the Role

GEMCO is seeking a detail-oriented and people-focused HR Generalist to support key Human Resources functions across benefits administration, employee engagement, wellness programs, compliance, and HR operations. This individual will be a critical contributor to our employee experience strategy, acting as a connector between people, policy, and support.

The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and is passionate about helping employees navigate their work lives with clarity, care, and consistency.

Key Responsibilities 1. Employee Relations & Engagement
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee questions and concerns, ensuring timely, respectful, and solutions-oriented resolution.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive work environment by supporting employee engagement and recognition initiatives.
  • Document employee concerns and escalate disciplinary actions, performance improvement plans, and conflict resolution matters to the Director of HR.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and provide consistent guidance to managers and employees on HR processes and expectations.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with HR leadership regarding emerging trends, employee issues, and potential risks.
  • Support the development and implementation of culture-building strategies to improve retention and morale.
2. Benefits Administration & Employee Support
  • Administer core benefit programs including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, HSA/FSA, and 401(k), ensuring accurate enrollments, changes, and terminations.
  • Serve as a primary contact for employees regarding benefits inquiries, eligibility, claims issues, and life event changes.
  • Conduct new hire benefit orientations and assist with ongoing education throughout the year.
  • Partner with third-party vendors and brokers to resolve benefit-related issues and improve employee satisfaction.
  • Coordinate open enrollment activities including system updates, communication, and employee support.
3. Wellness & Mental Health Program Support
  • Design, coordinate, and promote wellness programs, including health challenges, educational workshops, and campaigns focused on physical, financial, and mental well-being.
  • Actively promote GEMCO’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP), providing confidential guidance and resources to employees in need.
  • Track participation in wellness programs and collaborate with leadership on program effectiveness and improvement.
  • Assist with mental health awareness initiatives and integrate wellness strategies into company culture.
4. Leave Management & Disability Coordination
  • Administer and track employee leaves of absence including FMLA, short- and long-term disability, personal leave, and ADA accommodations.
  • Serve as the liaison between employees, providers, and internal stakeholders to ensure clarity and compliance throughout the leave process.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure timely updates to payroll and HRIS systems.
5. Compliance & HR Policy Support
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations, including ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, ACA, and ADA.
  • Support the preparation and distribution of compliance documents such as SPDs, 1095-C forms, and other required notices.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of employment laws and assist with policy interpretation and updates.
  • Assist in audit preparation and regulatory reporting.
6. Workers’ Compensation & Safety Support
  • Provide HR oversight for the workers’ compensation process, partnering with GEMCO’s Safety Department, broker, and insurance carrier.
  • Track and document claims, ensure timely follow-up, and support impacted employees with care and confidentiality.
  • Communicate regularly with HR and department leadership regarding active claims and resolutions.
7. Data Management & Reporting
  • Maintain employee data in the HRIS (UKG Ready), ensuring accuracy and integrity of benefits and leave-related information.
  • Prepare reports on benefits utilization, engagement trends, and program participation to support strategic decision-making.
  • Support ACA reporting and coordination with Trusaic to ensure timely and accurate filing.
8. Special Projects & Process Improvements
  • Assist with the implementation of HR initiatives aimed at improving the employee experience and administrative efficiency.
  • Conduct benchmarking research and recommend enhancements to GEMCO’s benefit offerings, engagement strategies, and support programs.
  • Collaborate with HR leadership on cross-functional projects and continuous improvement efforts.
What You Bring
  • 3+ years of progressive HR experience with a focus on benefits, employee relations, or wellness
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law and regulatory requirements (FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, COBRA, ACA, etc.)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and maintain confidentiality
  • High attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Experience with HRIS platforms (UKG Ready preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite
