Position Title: HR Specialist FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Summary/Objective:

The HR Specialist position is responsible for assisting the HR department with a variety of HR roles. When not hiring, placing, and orienting new employees, the HR Specialist will often oversee current employee satisfaction and ensure that the workplace is running efficiently.


Essential Functions:

  • Process employees’ queries and respond in a timely manner.
  • Preparing or updating employment records related to hiring, transferring, promoting, and terminating.
  • Explaining human resources policies, procedures, laws, and standards to new and existing employees.
  • Ensuring new hire paperwork is completed and processed.
  • Assist with the coordination of benefits.
  • Providing FMLA and Short-term disability paperwork to employees.
  • Track FMLA usage and communicate with managers/supervisors regarding employees going on leave and returning from leave.
  • Complete monthly billing and provide invoices to Accounts payable for Sun Life, Anthem, Delta Dental, Vision, Colorado PFL/FAMLI & YMCA.
  • Complete Employment Verification forms.
  • Complete Unemployment employer notifications.
  • Administer Service Awards program.
  • Manage Unemployment Shared Work Program.
  • 401k and Deferred Compensation administration
    • Data entry enrollment %, loans, address and name changes
    • Upload new hires, terminations, and transfers
  • Coordinate with Payroll Manager terminated employee record storage. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the organization.

Competencies:

  • Knowledge of Applicant Tracking System and Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to compute basic math functions.
  • Good problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to define and solve practical problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions in a variety of situations.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: Office / 40 hours (possible Overtime)

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree from a two-year college in related field.
  • One to two years relevant experience.
