Position Summary

The Human Resource Specialist is responsible for monitoring all Human Resource functions while providing administrative support.  This position is responsible for managing and maintaining all employee records.  The Human Resource Specialist will assist other Human Resource personnel with all Human Resources related activities.  The Human Resource Specialist is responsible for ensuring payroll is completed and will perform routine audits to ensure accuracy of all payroll related transactions.  This position will work hours appropriate to meet the needs of employees, which may include nights, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

Essential Functions of the Position

  • Demonstrate capacity to perform duties exhibiting the highest ethical standards, incorporating best practice, exemplifying the values expected within the department, and for promoting the mission of the organization.
  • Complete all necessary I-9 paperwork with new hires to ensure compliance as well as guide new hires on necessary paperwork.
  • Assist the department in carrying out various Human Resource programs and procedures for personnel.
  • Assist with conducting new hire orientation and as well as coordinate scheduling as needed of candidate applications.
  • Process payroll according to pay schedule and verify payroll changes have occurred and work alongside Benefit Generalist to ensure all audits are completed with accuracy and within deadlines outlined
  • Set up scheduled earnings and deductions as necessary.
  • Train/Educate employees on utilization on HRIS.
  • Handle all general HR related questions and explain payroll questions to employees.
  • Coordinate and maintain HRIS information.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all employment compliance and regulations that apply to Thunderbird Entertainment Incorporated.
  • Collaborate with management regarding employee audit findings and attendance corrective actions and assist with timecard audits as necessary. 
  • Assist with 401K submissions and update 401K contributions in HRIS as well as set up loan amortization deductions.
  • Assist with recruitment effort for all exempt and nonexempt personnel and posting open requisitions and scheduling applicants for interviews.
  • Create and maintain personnel and files via approved method (paper or electronic).
  • Submit Performance Action Forms as needed to modify and amend pay.
  • Produce and prepare Human Resources reports on general personnel activity as requested.
  • Performs other related duties as they arise at the discretion of Management.

 

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Tribal employment laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of the operation of a variety of computer software, including word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications.
  • Proficiency in preparing a variety of records, reports, and correspondence using appropriate format and computer software.

Knowledge of National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC), Minimum Internal Control Standards and the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA).

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships and ability to interact with employees at all levels, both in person and through phone, e-mail and written correspondence.
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management skills.
  • Ability to implement, explain and apply applicable policies, procedures, laws, codes and regulations.
  • Ability to make oral presentations to clearly convey information and concepts.
  • Work independently and as part of a team to ensure proper work practices.
  • Must maintain high level of confidentiality at all times.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; skill in working in an environment subject to constant interruptions and quickly changing priorities; ability to prioritize and delegate responsibilities when necessary; effective time-management skills.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • No direct supervisory responsibilities but will manage projects and activities as directed.

Physical Demands

  • Required to walk, sit, stand and move about the property for periods of time.

Work Environment

  • Exposure to smoking and secondhand smoke.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Noise level can range from minimal to intense.
  • Sitting or Standing for long periods of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking, hearing and visual acuity required. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Human Resource Management or business related field preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience combined).
  • 2 year(s) of experience working in a Human Resources setting.
  • Problem solving—this individual will have the ability to identify and resolve problems with some to little direction.
  • Experience within a hospitality setting, preferably a casino setting.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, local and tribal laws and experience working with these laws.
  • One (1) years casino experience preferred. 
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and obtain a key gaming license.
