GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) serves as a strategic advisor and operational leader across key HR functions. The HRBP will partner with academic and administrative units to drive talent strategy, foster inclusive workplace culture, and ensure alignment with institutional goals. This role blends strategic consulting with hands-on execution in areas such as employee relations, performance management, workforce planning, and organizational development.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to department heads, deans, and supervisors on HR strategy, policy interpretation, and workforce planning.
  • Lead initiatives in talent acquisition, onboarding, retention, and succession planning to support institutional excellence.
  • Manage employee relations cases with discretion, fairness, and alignment to university values.
  • Support performance management processes, including coaching, feedback, and development planning.
  • Partner with leadership on organizational design, change management, and culture-building efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies, including EEOC, FLSA, Title IX, and other regulations.
  • Collaborate with HR colleagues on compensation analysis, benefits education, and HRIS data integrity.
  • Champion diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in all HR practices and employee engagement efforts.
  • Contribute to HR reporting, analytics, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in special projects, committees, and cross-functional teams as assigned.

 



Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in higher education or mission-driven organizations
  • Demonstrated expertise in employee relations, performance management, and strategic HR consulting
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and integrity
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, HRIS systems, and data-informed decision-making
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills
  • Commitment to equity, integrity, and servant leadership
  • A combination of education, training, and experience may be substituted when competency in the role is demonstrated.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships.
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred
  • Familiarity with academic personnel processes and faculty affairs.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with a dedication to accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer knowledge and skills. Must pay attention to detail.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This work is performed in a business office setting within a higher education institution.

EFFORT:

Must be able to hear and speak.  Work requires sitting for long periods of time and working at a computer screen.  Constant use of hands and fingers.  Daily contact with co-workers.  Must be willing and able to work with detail.
