Human Resources Coordinator

About the Role
The Human Resources Coordinator plays a key role in supporting both the Human Resources and Finance functions of the Sioux Falls Family YMCA. This position is responsible for welcoming new employees, completing on-boarding, and assisting with compliance, and benefits administration, while also entering some financial transactions, providing payroll support, and completing reconciliations.
The right candidate is a people-person, but is also detail-oriented, organized, and thrives in a fast-paced nonprofit environment. You’ll work across departments to strengthen operations and provide vital support for our mission: building Strong Kids, Strong Families, Strong Communities.
What You’ll Do
Human Resources
- Ensure new team members are warmly welcomed and set up for success.
- Support hiring processes (job postings, scheduling, candidate communication).
- Manage on-boarding and off-boarding, including seasonal hiring for Camp Leif Ericson.
- Maintain accurate employee records and ensure compliance.
- Track certifications, evaluations, and training.
- Assist employees with HR questions and resources.
- Coordinate employee benefits and open enrollment.
Bookkeeping & Finance
- Assist with payroll processing and benefit transactions.
- Reconcile bank and credit card statements.
- Assist with daily transaction recording (AP/AR).
- Maintain secure and confidential financial records.
General Operations
- Communicate with staff, leadership, and external partners.
- Provide support during audits and HR compliance reviews.
- Manage mail distribution and office supply inventory.
- Assist team with YMCA events such as Camp Leif Ericson, Tri-State Basketball Tournament, and Fore the Kids Golf Classic.
What We’re Looking For
- Associate’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are a must.
- 2+ years’ experience in HR, bookkeeping, or administrative support preferred.
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
- Nonprofit experience a plus.
Skills & Competencies:
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, Microsoft Office, and HR/payroll platforms.
- Knowledge of HR compliance and nonprofit accounting practices.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Relevant certifications (SHRM-CP, PHR, QuickBooks) a plus.
Work Environment
- Location: Primarily on-site at the Sioux Falls YMCA office.
- Conditions: Office setting with moderate noise; occasional event support indoors/outdoors.
- Travel: Minimal local travel for trainings/events.
- Physical Demands: Mostly desk work; occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs).
Compensation & Benefits
💵 Hourly Rate: $20.00 – $24.00 (DOE)
